Expected better

T Lock, Amazon
13 September 2013
  • Summary: At f2.8 and being a sigma lens I was expecting good things on my Canon 500D Stick with the kit lens which is sharper and at f3.5 there's no real difference in shutter speeds Also my version produced an unpleasant chromatic aberration . It was nowhere near as good my old EF glass lens 35-70mm .

NOT FULL-FRAME COMPATIBLE

Firthfilms, Amazon
19 June 2012
  • Summary: Great focus, good lens, sharp image, not full-frame. Bought this for the Canon 5d Mark iii, Should have guessed this but this lens couldn't be less full-frame compatible. Black frame around 18mm, black corners in 50mm, unusable.

Pentax users beware: low-light shots are no better than kit lens

Neildo, Amazon
12 February 2010
  • Summary: I bought this lens hoping that the F/2.8 and optical stabilization would provide better indoor shots than the Pentax kit lens 18-55mm F/3.5-5.4. Unfortunately it provides no improvement for low-light shots. I am using this on a Pentax K-x.

not for Pentax users

Jorge Acuna, Amazon
4 October 2009
  • Summary: if you are thinking to acquire this lens as your first lens is ok, but if you are thinking to buy this lens just to replace your kit lens, its better not. I own a Pentax K-x and I decided to buy this lens looking to have a brighter lens (it has F/2.8).

Soft, with lots of aberrations

A. Nathanson, Amazon
4 October 2009
  • Summary: I used this lens with my Rebel T2i, and believe me, I really wanted to like it for its $200 price point. Wide-open at f/2.8 (available only at 18mm), I was dumbfounded by how soft the output was.

Fabulous lens if not for the front-focus and random overexposure problems...

Jade Grimmius, Amazon
4 July 2008
  • Summary: I purchased this lens in spite of the possibility of receiving one of the "faulty" lenses I'd read about in other reviews. Unfortunately I seem to have bad luck. I kept the lens for nearly a month, hoping it was my camera (I have a Nikon D40) but I tried it on a Nikon D200 and got the same...

Died 3 years

Sid L. Brail, Amazon
15 April 2008
  • Summary: This lens does everything the manufacturer claims. It is sharp, auto focuses well and is easy to use. Unfortunately the lens stopped working after three years.

soft and blurry at 2.8

Honest Reviews., Amazon
26 January 2008
  • Summary: I've received one copy of this through amazon, not through a vendor and when compared to my tamron 17-50 2.8, this one is blurry and soft at 2.8. Before I purchased this lens, I emailed sigma and they claim this lens in some European magazines report this lens is sharper then the tamron 17-50 2.8,...

Be wary of quality control

J. Mackey, Amazon
1 December 2007
  • Summary: I went through two copies of this lens. The first copy had a front-focus problem approaching 20mm. I sent sample shots to Sigma, and they directed me to simply return the lens to Amazon rather than have it serviced. So, I exchanged it (big points to Amazon for making that so easy!

Für Nikon D300 nicht geeignet.

Michael Meyer, Amazon
14 November 2014
  • Summary: Bilder sind prinzipiell überbelichtet. Ständig muss probiert werden und nach der richtigen Einstellung gesucht werden. Habe die Rücksendung leider verpasst, da ich dachte es läge an mir. Liegt es nicht.
