Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 EX DC Macro Review

What Digital Camera
23 January 2009
  • Summary: Sigma's almost identical 17-70mm f/2.8-4.5 and 18-50mm f/2.8 siblings both look and feel like serious lenses. Neither one is truly a macro lens, despite that specification being in both names, but in other respects the prices are similar enough to allow a buying choice to be made simply by assessing the benefit of a longer zoom range versus a constant f/2.8 maximum aperture.
  • Pros: All-round quality and padded case
  • Cons: Cheeky “macro” label

Lens Test: Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 EX DC Macro

Pop Photo
4 January 2008
  • Excerpt: With Sigma's new 18-50mm f/2.8 macro ($420, estimated street), we jog past another milestone: This was the industry's first digital-only lens to be released in a secondgeneration version. The closest focusing of any Sigma zoom, this 30-85mm (equivalent, with our test camera's 1.6X lens factor) features a wider barrel and larger filter size, and much closer focusing (from 7.25 inches, rather than 11.25 inches) than the 18-50mm it replaces, at about the same price.

REVIEW: Sigma 18-50 f/2.8 EX DC

photodo
3 January 2008
  • Conclusion: This lens is small for an f/2.8 model and although it suffers slightly at the wide-open aperture the focusing ability throughout the focal range warrants the aperture. From f/4 onwards it is a cracking lens that is light enough to have fitted to the camera permanently as a walk-round lens. It left me feeling that the extra price paid over the standard DC lens was well worth it. A highly recommended lens.
  • Pros: Quick, accurate autofocus, Small and light for an f/2.8 lens, Sharpest lens tested to date, Useful protective pouch
  • Cons: CA wide open, Slight distortions at either end (Minor point)

Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 EX DC Macro Review

What Digital Camera
7 May 2007
  • Summary: If you’re looking for something completely different, Sigma provides a very viable option. For less than the price of the camera brands lenses, the 18-50mm features macro capability, making it unique in this round-up. Not only that, but the fast aperture and excellent performance make it good value for money.
  • Pros: Macro capability, Special Low Dispersion/Low Dispersion glass
  • Cons: No Hyper Sonic Motor, slightly noisy

Sigma AF 18-50mm f/2.8 EX DC macro - Review / Lab Test Report

photozone.de
31 January 2008
  • Conclusion: Generally the Sigma AF 18-50mm f/2.8 EX DC macro delivered a solid performance but without being any better than the competition. The resolution results are generally very fine except at 18mm where the extreme border performance leaves something to be desired below f/5.6. Distortions as well as CAs are about in line with the rest of the gang. Typical for most dedicated APS-C lenses the vignetting could be a little better at wide-open aperture.

Sigma AF 18-50mm f/2.8 EX DC Aspherical IF - Review / Test Report

photozone.de
29 January 2008
  • Conclusion: All-in-all the 18-50mm f/2.8EX is not a lens without flaws but the package is quite sound especially when considering the large max. aperture, the price as well as the competition.

Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 EX DC MACRO

SLO-FOTO
9 December 2009
  • Excerpt: 1.
  • Cons: - Kromatska aberacija do f5.6, - Glasno ostrenje

Kipróbáltuk: Sigma 18-50mm/F2,8 EX DC

Pixinfo
22 December 2007
  • Summary: Az APS-C érzékelőmérethez készített nagylátószögű zoomobjektívek közül a Canon nagy fényerejű, stabilizált változatát már kipróbáltuk, következzen a Sigma hasonló képességű optikája, igaz stabilizátor nélkül. A 18-50 mm lefedettségű változat a kitobjektívek leváltására készült, átfogása nagyjából megegyezik azokkal, ám fényereje sokkal jobb náluk.
