not for Pentax users

Jorge Acuna, Amazon
4 July 2012
  • Summary: if you are thinking to acquire this lens as your first lens is ok, but if you are thinking to buy this lens just to replace your kit lens, its better not. I own a Pentax K-x and I decided to buy this lens looking to have a brighter lens (it has F/2.8). Well, it has the same light input at F/2.8 as the Pentax kit lens at F/3.5, (I tested both under controlled conditions). So the F/2.8 doesn't provide any shutter speed advantage over the kits lens.

Not worth buying... Poor Warr. Support..

ALcopyman, Adorama
28 June 2011
  • Excerpt: I take Many pictures. Family photos, weddings, receptions, outings, etc.. Nice zoom range and clear... When it focuses...Bad Focus problem. Sounds like something binds up, then after you take your Out of Focus picture, the lens finishes moving, then you might get a clear pic..I even sent this lens off for warranty repair and it came back the same way it left... This was my first Sigma lens and I will Never buy a Sigma lens again...
  • Pros: Easily Interchangeable, Lightweight
  • Cons: Blurry Focus, Lens Creep, Slow Focus

Soft, with lots of aberrations

A. Nathanson, Amazon
4 June 2010
  • Summary: I used this lens with my Rebel T2i, and believe me, I really wanted to like it for its $200 price point. Wide-open at f/2.8 (available only at 18mm), I was dumbfounded by how soft the output was. Stopped-down to f/11, the lens exhibits adequate sharpness, but displays high levels of (correctable) distortion. The lens really struggles to resolve any detail in the corners at most focal lengths. I would not recommend this lens to anyone who tends to view images at 100%.

Pentax users beware: low-light shots are no better than kit lens

Neildo, Amazon
12 February 2010
  • Summary: I bought this lens hoping that the F/2.8 and optical stabilization would provide better indoor shots than the Pentax kit lens 18-55mm F/3.5-5.4. Unfortunately it provides no improvement for low-light shots. I am using this on a Pentax K-x. The first problem is that despite being F/2.8, it's not a bright lens. At the widest aperture F/2.8 at 18mm, this lens has the same light input as the Pentax kit lens at F/3.5.

Very average image quality, problems with AF

V. Komarov, Amazon
8 September 2009
  • Summary: The image quality of the pictures is average (tested with Canon D450), but the bad part was Autofocus performance. It failed 50% of the time and worked mostly on the pictures were objects were at the same distance from the camera. If not, the AF sets for the lower part of the image most of the time (tested for several days with the same effect in all image conditions).

Poor image quality

Alan, Amazon
5 May 2013
  • Summary: Its built solid, focus is ultra fast, the VR really works great. But if your serious about your photography give this a miss as the image quality is no where near good enough, if you just want a lens to mess about with you may be happy with it.

Looks the part it's far from it !!!

Paul Stephen King, Amazon
17 December 2012
  • Summary: Unpack it and the build quality is great. Mount it on your camera and the focus is fast. But it's no macro lens that's for sure. Okay the images are crisp, sharp and bright when you have good available light but anything above f8 and the chromatic aberration is dreadful. In fact it's so bad by the time I had cropped one image to retain the sharp areas may as well have taken it with a mobile phone.

OK for a casual, poor for an amateur/semi-pro photographer

Thomas Black, Amazon
21 March 2012
  • Summary: I bought this lens for my 500D to replace my kit lens and to give me the option of taking some wide-angle shots at F2.8, which would have been good for my live-music photography. What I got was a lens which, whilst well made and sturdy, was well below-par in terms of picture quality and sharpness. A quickl test shoot with the lens - of a vase of flowers - looked fine when you didn't look too close at it.

User Review

Павлов Дмитрий, Yandex
14 December 2013

  • Pros: nessuno
  • Cons: poco luminoso
