Very disappointed. It should've been clearly noted in the product ...

  • Summary: I just picked up this lens and haven't even taken it to try it out, but right out of the box I discovered one major issue. I bought this lens because it also has Optical Stabilizer (OS), but in the brochure that came with it, it says the OS does not work with Sony DSLRs. Very disappointed. It should've been clearly noted in the product description.

Horrible speed

Steven Terrell, Amazon
9 July 2014
  • Summary: I'm not so much of a fan of this lens on the Sony Alpha 55. It's to slow on auto mode and 95% of my pictures are blurry unless I take my time with the snaps.

Update to My Previous Review

Reinaldo, Adorama
8 March 2014
  • Excerpt: I first gave it four stars because of the versatility. I used it for images for the web and sharing sites first. It looked fine, but later when I tried to make larger prints, I found that the images were often far too soft. Also I noticed that images were often out of focus. In the heat of shooting, I hadn't looked at the focus dot and the lens simply focused so slowly that either the shot was gone or the shutter beat the lens.
  • Pros: Versatile
  • Cons: Blurry Focus, Lens Creep, Slow Focus

Disappointment

p, B&H Photo
18 September 2013
  • Excerpt: I purchased this on recommendation of the sales person for use on my Cannon T3i. I wanted a lens to replace the two kit lenses so I would not have to carry and switch between them. Bottom line, a disappointment. I returned it. 1) As another reviewer noted, it is advertised as 18-250mm, however it is equivalent to 18-200mm (based on my other lens). I would have thought this would be standard - that all 250mm should zoom equally. This lens does not.
  • Cons: Falsely Calibrated Zoom, Poor in Low Light, Stiff Binding Zoom

Wish I could rate the product ordered, instead a story of bait-and-switch...

  • Summary: UPDATE #5: DECIDED TO SEE IF ORDERING FROM THE SELLER (47TH STREET PHOTO) THAT DOES NOT HAVE AMAZON FULFILLMENT AND FINALLY RECEIVED THE CORRECT LENS. GOTTA SAY THE OS WORKS WELL AND IT'S A BETTER LENS OVERALL THAN THE NEWER "MACRO" VERSION. NOW I JUST HAVE TO WASTE MY TIME SENDING THE OTHER TWO FROM BEACH CAMERA/AMAZON BACK.

WARNING: The Sony mount DON'T include OS (discountinued by Sigma)

Fred C. Bueno "Fred C. Bueno", Amazon
3 August 2013
  • Summary: I got this item last month right here, at Amazon (Sony mount). My biggest motivation was the OS, as I have a Sony Nex 5N and wanted this lens to use with my Alpha Lens adapter (LAEA2). Different than Sony's Alpha models (A55, A65, A77,...), the Nex line don't include body stabilization, something that makes lenses with OS extremely appealing. My biggest disappointment was to receive the lens WITHOUT the OS.

Don't buy it!!!

ABoogie, B&H Photo
31 July 2013
  • Excerpt: I went from a Canon to this. It just doesn't take the same quality photos. In addition it is hard to get up-close shots and the far away ones are grainy and not as clear. This is probably because the lens is hard to keep steady as it is quite heavy. It also has the hardest time focusing. I'm so frustrated with it.
  • Pros: Easily Interchangeable
  • Cons: Blurry Focus, Heavy, Poor in Low Light, Slow Focus

Sigma Quality Dropping

Toby the shooter, Adorama
30 July 2013
  • Excerpt: I have a Sigma 18-125mm which I really like. Bought a 18-250 for a backup for my Tamron 18-270mm. Received lens had a tight spot when you zoomed about halfway out. Thought it might get better with us so I took 1-200 photos zooming on each one. No change, returned it for replacement. Second lens had same problem only not quite as bad. Still caused a problem when zoomed as you expect smooth action so as not to interrupt your shooting.
