2x DOB latter, the third one worked great!
20 May 2011
Summary: So I got one of these for my birthday form my parents and as soon as I put the lens on and turn on the camera it starts to emit this uncharitable high pitch squeal. So my first reaction was it was the IS, but I turned that off and guess what? It was still doing it. So I called up amazon and they took care of me real well! Overnight Air mail to my house. So today Is the day I got the new one, this time the lens did not sequel!
Summary: If you are like me and want a bit more reach than the standard 3x kit zooms (17-50, 18-55, etc) but don't like the price, weight, or optical compromises of a superzoom (18-250) then this is a great lens. The build is really excellent for a lens of this price. It has nice weight and feels solid and well put together and it comes with a hood. Autofocus is great.
Versatile, good performing and affordable, but beware potential autofocus problem

Summary: (See my update at the bottom of this review.) After buying my Canon xSi I quickly concluded that I was not going to be satisfied unless I had a zoom of some kind to go with it. For a walk around lens, the modest 18-125mm range that this zoom offered, which is moderate wide angle to moderate telephoto, sounded very appealing.
Summary: I order this lens from Amazon, well, the package came fast as expected because of 1 day shipping. It's okay to pay extra to ensure the transaction and service. I am totally a newbie in photography. In the very first place, I just want a cam that is much better than point&shoot cam I have so I bought Canon XS. The cam is great at the price as it is the cheapest cam with live view function.
For the money you will not get better picture quality

Summary: The lens quality is outstanding and tremendous value for the money. The only down size is that auto focusing on ocassions doesn't do its job and manual intervention is required. You can't fail to be impressed by the picture quality of this lens, I have not had better.
A brilliant general purpose lense with a good zoom range

Excerpt: "...sacrificing too much quality. The Sigma was much cheaper than several other options (Canon 28-135mm EF for example) and the zoom starts at 18mm which is the same as the kit lens on my Canon 400D. I find it provides enough wide angle for most situations - having used the Canon 28-135mm too, I found it too restrictive here having lost 10mm. 125mm is a good zoom to have in most situations too - it's not going to do wanders at airshows but again the ...
Pros: Reduces hassle of changing lenses, good zoom range, impressive results
Cons: Has an issue with AF, not quite as sharp, fast and detailed as seperate lenses .
