Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4.5 DC Macro review by kiwijono

Summary: I bought this lens while on holiday in Australia and after getting back to NZ, I was disappointed with the results. A large number of images were blurry and not sharp. Focus tests showed up a lot of back focus (and sometimes even front focus) at different focal lengths. I sent the lens back to the NZ support agent (who, to their credit, honored the "Australia Only" warranty). It ended up away for 4 weeks, leaving me stewing about it!
Pros: Great range, Good IQ, Faster than 18-55 kit lens, Good value
Summary: I have another sigma lens 70-300 before buying this one so I was impressed with that one, but I wish I can say the same for this. I'm using it on my sony a37. Lens' autofocus gets lost a LOT and when it does get lost it has a very hard time coming back from it. Sometimes, it just stops autofocusing because it's so lost (very annoying). I planned on using this lens for some wedding photography but that's changed now because of the slow af...
Summary: I am just an amateur photographer. I just take family pics so this was a big purchase for me. I have about 5 lenses for my Nikon D-80 and I use this one 90% of the time. I've had it 6 years now and still no problem.
Summary: Needed a better lens then the one I got with my Sony A33. Good speed lens and I have no complaints. I tried the Tamron lens and had nothing but problems with it. I had to return it. I have-not noticed any distortions and I have taken a few low light photos with great results.

Summary: Bought this used as my first APS-C lens coming from Micro 4/3. Read the reviews and made the selection based on the reviews. I'm not disappointed. Not noisy, sharp (not super) but certainly very good.
Summary: When this item was in stock on Amazon via this seller (Electronics Basket), it was classified as NEW. I ordered the Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4 DC Macro OS HSM lens from them for my K5 and to my surprise it merely came in a plain white box with just the caps and hood but no instructions or warranty information. They claimed it was still new. I promptly returned it and got my money back at a small cost of $6.00 shipping. I never believed them when they said it was still new.
Summary: Amazon had a camera lens listed at a great price. I placed an order, paid, and received an order confirmation. Two days later I received an email from UPS that the order had been canceled for delivery. Amazon was unaware. The seller claimed they had no more in stock, but their website showed 12 in stock at a higher price. Beware I found this to be dishonesty for more money.
