19 March 2015
  • Summary: I recently transitioned from a full frame Canon 5D Mark III to a Micro Four Thirds Panasonic GH4. I wanted a lens that was affordable and equivalent to 35mm on full frame. This lens delivers. I haven't had a chance to test it in a practical settings yet (i.e.

When you need that aperture...

  • Excerpt: Took this lens out to the middle of the Mojave and it worked great. Unfortunately the moon was out so we couldn't see the milky way, but it still captured a great star field. Much better than if I'd bought the 14mm f/2.8.

  • Excerpt: Shoots very clean and sharp images from corner to corner. A very good buy for the money. Initially, I was not sure about this lens upon recieving it. I couln't seem to get accurate focus regardless of proper manual focus technique. Turns out, my photo review software in the computer was the problem.
  • Pros: Buttery smooth focus ring, Consistent Output, Durable, Rugged, Strong Construction
  • Cons: Heavy

  • Excerpt: I use this on my canon 70d for landscape and night pictures and I am very happy with the purchase of this lens. Landscape pictures come out beautiful but this lens shines when used for night & astrophotography! Well worth the investment!

Good Wide-Angle For The Price

Jim the Nightfly, B&H Photo
10 April 2014
  • Excerpt: I purchased this lens for night landscapes and astrophotography in general. The first copy received was gladly replaced by B&H after it was discovered that some optical elements were decentered. The copy had uneven vignetting wide open and it had distortion in one frame corner unlike the others.
  • Pros: Consistent Output

Rediscover Manual Focus lens

JiCi, B&H Photo
23 February 2014
  • Excerpt: Great product overall. The only option on APS-C to a Nikon 24 1.4 on FF. Close focus create nice blurred background in a wide composition. Focus ring precise and smooth. Overall construction is solid. Only lens cap need to be replace since it is hard to put on, and impossible with gloves.
  • Pros: Consistent Output, Nice Bokeh, Strong Construction
  • Cons: Lens Cap Hard To Put On

For the price its great!

Charles Peterson, Amazon

  • Summary: I wish this lens was a little sharper but for the price it does the job. Even in video mode it doesn't seem as sharp as if you got a Canon lens.

A long awaited APS-C wide-angle prime

hoof, B&H Photo
8 October 2013
  • Excerpt: There has been a lot of talk about a lack of wide-angle (16-18mm) primes for APS-C. It seems all the wide-angle lenses for APS are zooms, and most are F/3.5 or slower. This is my fourth Samyang lens.
  • Pros: Fast, Nice Bokeh, Sharp wide open
  • Cons: Manual focus only

Great Low Light Lens

Video Pro, B&H Photo
18 September 2013
  • Excerpt: I bought this lens as soon as it became available hoping I could check it off from my my low light, wide angle wish list. I can now say it has fulfilled my expections and is now off that list. It stays sharp throughout the entire viewing area, even at its widest aperture of 2.0.
  • Pros: Consistent Output, Durable, Easily Interchangeable, Nice Bokeh, Rugged, Strong Construction
