Summary: My husband is very happy with this lens. I bought it for him for Christmas. He didn't get a chance to try it out until this past weekend, at a miniature train show. This lens is priced much cheaper than a similar Canon lens that is available for his camera, yet the quality is every bit as good. The lens arrived in due time and was well packaged.
An inexpensive alternative to get wide angle and NOT fisheye
8 March 2013
Summary: An inexpensive alternative to get wide angle and NOT fisheye. it is heavy but it is removable so you dont have to keep it on all the time. One piece of advice, the barrel may be seen at the wide end of your camera so get the LARGEST 58 mm filter size and use a stepdown ring to achieve less barrel, but sometimes it does add a nice "tube" effect to your images & video. very good quality construction, probably a couple of good elements.
Excerpt: This adds a nice wider range to the Canon G9 when mounted on a Lensmate or similar adaptor. It makes for some interesting perspectives otherwise impossible, and works best with some part of the composition close to the lens. Easy to put on using the bayonet mount. Some vignetting at the widest setting, but good image quality in a form factor that doesn't dwarf the G9. If you need a flash, you will have to use an external flash like the 220EX or larger.
Excerpt: Note I'm using this on a still camera, Canon G7, with the Canon 58mm adapter tube thingie (after seeing samples on the "lensmate" manufacturer site, sorry guys didn't buy your adapter!). It has to be the right distance from the lens to work well. My results are MUCH better than the other poster had here, but still a bit soft at the edges with a lot more CA than the camera itself or Canon's wide adapter (tho still useful for low res work).
Summary: This review is not for this product specifically, but more on the quality of Raynox products themselves. I have included below the transcript from a series of e-mails between Raynox and myself. This is unedited, exactly as the exchange went. Needless to say, I am very unhappy with their product and their customer service, and I will never buy another one of their items. I offer my experience only to help others avoid a waste of money.
Summary: I've been searching everywhere for this, thankyou AMAZON ! Wide angles are common on still cameras but hard to find on camcorders. I got this for my Panasonic HDC SC900 and have been stunned by the image quality and freedom from distortion. I had to get some adaptor rings to get it to fit the thread on the camera but no problems. OK it does add a tiny bit of weight and 'presence' to the camera, but the results are so pleasing you just have to say YES !
