  • Summary: For a novice and hobbyist photographer like me, I will have to get used to the Manual focus required for this lens but it works GREAT!!! I got a really good shot of the moon last night (1st test shot that I posted in the user photographs for this product)...

image quality is average...

  • Summary: I thought the unavailability of zoom is the only drawback of this lens, but everything turned out much worse. Quality of image is bad. Add money and buy better quality lens with zoom, it's my opinion.

Once you learn to us it, it's great!

JStern, Amazon

  • Summary: I have had this lens for over a month now, but only recently got to use it. The manual focus is something I'm still getting used to, but once I get it set the lens is wonderful. I mainly purchased this lens for nature photography & to use down at the harbor for boats & birds & such. I am completely satisfied with the quality of picture it provides.

If you want 5 stars, then pay 5000 bucks.

JimD, Amazon

  • Summary: Was actually surprised by the picture quality from this lens. Its not very fast (f/8) so you will need bright light or a tripod and a still subject. I haven't tried it with the teleconverter yet. Sure, there are better 500mm lenses out there - you just have to be willing to pay several thousand of dollars to get the next best one. The quality is better than cropping and enlarging so if you want shots to look up close and personal, its well worth the money.

happy

  • Summary: Phoenix 1000mm f/8 Telephoto Lens with Mount - for Pentax Digital & Film SLR Cameras including ZX series, *ist D DL DS, K10D, K20D, K100D, K110D & K200D I have tried this lens and am happy. I can't justify spending thousands of dollars as i have a family, but this was a bargain. I got many nice shots of birds in direct sunlight. A little grainy on a few. I am also learning what the "big Boys" feel like with their expensive glass. I can live with myself on this one.

for people who are questionable

Wesley H. Hall, Amazon

  • Summary: I've heard so many bad things about this lens and for what your paying for it isn't bad at all. I will admit the t-mount isn't the best but other than that it comes out with good pictures. You have to learn the tricks on how to focus it but it didn't take me that long at all.

  • Summary: Great product for the money.. the optics are ok for an expert... but seeing as i'm a novice, the optics are perfect for my purposes. This is a great way to expand one's photography by adding another dimension to one's capabilities
