Summary: What can I say about the mighty 43mm... For those who are not familiar with Pentax this lens as well as the other FA Limited lenses are known in Pentax circles as the 3 amigos. The 31mmm 43mm and 77mm.... These lenses are every bit as sharp as any L Series lens Canon puts out. True maybe it's not f1.2 but it's a fraction of the cost and the build quality exceeds that of most lenses put out by Canon or Nikon. It's all metal and sharp!
Summary: Excellent value!!! Sharp wide opened and gets even sharper stopped down a little. Excellent contrast and colors!!!! I first bought FA 50mm f1.4 whish is a good value as well (not as sharp wide opened but gives better bokeh and offers 1.4 at 50mm. However, after purchasing this one, I rarely use the 50mm. This one also is easier to use indoors as it is a little wider and still great for portraits.
Excerpt: My copy was purchased at B&H, it is silver assembled in Vietnam, with one year warranty. It is beautiful and looks great on my black K3. I was hesitating to buy this lens because I have the DA40/2.8 that is a superb lens, and a pancake. However, I got into this one. Now, I do not want to get rid of the other one. They are both so good.
Pros: Sharp wide open, small, beautiful, color, IQ
Excerpt: This review is for a mint condition 'Made in Japan' FA43 bought second-hand in Sweden, serial nr in the 0026xxx-range. Initial review based on experiences with the K-5 mk1, now updated after 6 months use with the K-3.
Pros: Build quality, small size, rendering, haptics
Excerpt: I mount this lens onto A7R via an adaptor. This is a very good quality, small and high precision lens. It is very sharp with good rendition beautifl color lens. I could use it in wide open and get excellent picture. Small, light weight, good manufacturing process, good material, great optical performance, FF lens and very competitive price. What I want more?
Excerpt: This lens is right in keeping with other Pentax primes - sharp, fast and delivers wonderful colors. I use this, the 15mm and the 70mm almost exclusively for magazine-quality work. Why the professional community hasn't embraced the Pentax line more enthusiastically is beyond me.
Pros: Consistent Output, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Lightweight, Nice Bokeh
Excerpt: Mine is a silver MIJ version. This lens is really a perfect combination of speed and size. I was a bit skeptical of the focal lenght before buying 43 ltd because I have never really liked 50mm lenses on APS-C camera. As a great surprice 43mm is just the right amount wider and I like it a lot. Image quality is also very high. Sharp, good colors and nice bokeh.
Summary: Beware the Pentax Limited lens series. Once you try one, you'll want another. And then another...then you'll find yourself on your buddy's couch, because your wife left you...you lens buying addict. But seriously, this is an awesome lens. Perfect for outdoor shooting, especially great for candids. On an APS-C (all Pentax digital SLR), the focal length is equivalent to 65mm--slightly closer than natural perspective.
