Excerpt: This review is for a mint condition 'Made in Japan' FA43 bought second-hand in Sweden, serial nr in the 0026xxx-range. Initial review based on experiences with the K-5 mk1, now updated after 6 months use with the K-3.
Pros: Build quality, small size, rendering, haptics
Excerpt: Mine is a silver MIJ version. This lens is really a perfect combination of speed and size. I was a bit skeptical of the focal lenght before buying 43 ltd because I have never really liked 50mm lenses on APS-C camera. As a great surprice 43mm is just the right amount wider and I like it a lot. Image quality is also very high. Sharp, good colors and nice bokeh.
Summary: Beware the Pentax Limited lens series. Once you try one, you'll want another. And then another...then you'll find yourself on your buddy's couch, because your wife left you...you lens buying addict. But seriously, this is an awesome lens. Perfect for outdoor shooting, especially great for candids. On an APS-C (all Pentax digital SLR), the focal length is equivalent to 65mm--slightly closer than natural perspective.
Summary: I bought this lens because I felt I needed an all-around portrait lens. And also because this lens was the thing that made me switch from Canon to Pentax. Like some people posted here, this lens is like a wild woman. Sometimes it will produce breathtaking results, and sometimes it will leave you out in the cold. It depends on some circumstances. I wouldn't recommend this lens to an inexperienced photographer.
Excerpt: I was a bit reluctant to get this, as I already had the 40mm da limited. I love the 31mm and 77mm fa limiteds, so I figured I would probably love this one too. I own the K-5ii-s and the K-01. So far I have only used it on the K-01 (but if it does well on the k-01 it will do great on the k-5 iis). It is a good companion to the k-01. Focusing is very accurate. I took it to a couple concerts and left it on f/2 the majority of the time.
Pros: Consistent Output, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Nice Bokeh, Strong Construction
Excerpt: I recently purchased the FA 43 1.9 (AIV, #28xxx) based on its legendary status in the Pentax community. I bought it used on Ebay from a great seller for $500. That is a lot of money to me, so my expectations were high. I mainly photograph friends and family (of the fast-moving preschool sort) and shoot jpegs only (no time to post process at this stage in my life). I use the FA 43 on my simple but capable K-01.
Excerpt: first of all, I had this lense as a gift from a local shop, sells old camera stuffs. It was mounted on Pentax film camera and a shop owner wanted to give me a gift, Because i did favor to him. First, He gave me a chance to choose one of cheap $25 tripod or the pentax film camera with the lens. He never knew the value of the tiny lens. Of course I chose the Pentax.
Pros: Small size, fast AF, f1.9, 43mm on APS sensor is better than 50mm
