Pentax SMC FA 43mm f/1.9 Limited

PC Magazine
24 November 2010
  • Conclusion: The Pentax SMC FA 43mm f/1.9 Limited lens may be the perfect standard-angle lens on film, but the lack of a Pentax full-frame digital body narrows its field of view.
  • Pros: Extremely sharp. Compact. Fast aperture. Excellent build quality.
  • Cons: Expensive. Awkward focal length on APS-C cameras. Slower, screw-drive focus system.

REVIEW: SMC Pentax-FA 43mm f/1.9 Limited Lens

photodo
6 August 2010
  • Excerpt: This is the second of the three Limited lenses from Pentax, originally designed for film and aiming to be of the highest manufacturing and optical standards. The 43mm was actually the first to be released, alongside the MZ-3 film SLR in 1998. It was the first total rethink of the design of the standard lens for decades and has a reputation for outresolving even the Carl Zeiss Planar 50mm lens.

Pentax smc FA 43mm f/1.9 Limited Lens Review

SLR Lens and Camera Reviews
2 August 2009
  • Excerpt: Pentax smc FA 43mm f/1.9 Limited is one of the only four FA lenses from the company's film era that are still being manufactured and sold nowadays. The lens was the first one to bear 'Limited' designation and despite its rather high price tag, ~US$500, remained quite popular among users.

smc FA 43 mm f/1.9 Limited

  • Excerpt: Originally posted 2011-05-05 on Optyczne.pl No other company has as many lenses with untypical parameters as Pentax. For instance when most of companies feature a 85 mm f/1.4 or f/1.8 device in their line-up as a typical portrait lens, in the case of the Pentax such a lens has been withdrawn from the market for some time now and we get a 77 mm model with f/1.8 aperture instead. When it comes to zoom lenses, the situation is the same.
  • Cons: weak image quality on the edge of the frame,, huge chromatic aberration,, monstrous coma,, noisy autofocus,, price/quality ratio could have been better.

Pentax SMC FA 43mm f/1.9 Limited - Lab Test / Review

photozone.de
24 August 2010
  • Conclusion: The Pentax SMC FA 43mm f/1.9 Limited produced mixed feelings during the tests (performed at 16mp). This is in so far surprising that the lens performed rather nicely in our initial test based on the Pentax K10D (at 10mp). The center performance is impressive at max. aperture but the outer image region is plain soft here. The quality increases at f/2.8 but the peak performance is not reached prior of f/4 which is rather "late" for such a prime lens.

Pentax SMC-FA 43mm f/1.9 Limited - Review / Test Report

photozone.de
31 October 2008
  • Conclusion: Similar to its cousins (DA 40mm f/2.8, FA 50mm f/1.4) the Pentax SMC-FA 43mm f/1.9 Limited is a very good performer with a few weaknesses. At f/1.9 the contrast and resolution is somewhat soft but beyond the quality is superb and probably as good as it gets on the K10D. Vignetting and distortions are well controlled whereas CAs could be a little lower for a fix-focal.

  • Summary: Chyba najbardziej bezpośrednim konkurentem testowanego Pentaksa 1.9/43 jest Voigtlander Ultron 40 mm f/2 SL II Aspherical.
  • Pros: solidna, metalowa obudowa i wysoka jakość wykonania,, rewelacyjna jakość obrazu w centrum kadru,, umiarkowana dystorsja,, niewielki astygmatyzm,, małe winietowanie,, dobra praca pod ostre światło,, wysoka transmisja,, szybki i celny autofokus.
