Summary: I have used the FA 77 for a couple of years, basically since I decided I needed a faster aperture than the Pentax 70mm f/2.4 DA Limited Lens for Pentax and Samsung Digital SLR Cameras would give me. Clearly, one of the most major strengths of Pentax is the fact that they have lenses with tight construction, like the limited lenses. Metal bodies, but very light and small.
Excerpt: OK, so I've been lusting after this lens for a while and might be a bit biased, but I'm super happy. I am not a pro, just an avid photographer with lots of reasons to take pictures. What I love: I love the bokeh, lives up to everything in the other reviews. I love the focal length, it is great for capturing the candid portraits, i.e. I dont interrupt the moment when my kids are engrossed in doing something worth catching.
Excerpt: I am a novice to photography but had read the reviews on this lens. First, B&H Photo delivered the lens in a timely fashion that required my signature. They wanted to make sure I received it. Second, it was well packaged. Finally, the lens is as advertised. I have taken several pictures with it and the photos are tremendous! I can only imagine how good my pictures will get as I improve in understanding lighting, camera settings, etc. Thanks B&H!
Pros: Consistent Output, Nice Bokeh, Rugged, Strong Construction
Great but not as good as reviews lead me to believe

Summary: My main hobby is photography. I have a pretty large collection of Pentax lenses, including the following which are of similar focal length: 35mm f3.5 Takumar, 31mm Limited FA (this review), 35mm DA Limited Macro, 40mm DA Limited (sold this one a few months ago), 50mm f1.2 SMCA, 50mm f4 Takumar Macro, 50mm f1.4 Takumar early 8 element, 50mm f1.8 Helios in K-Mount. So here's the deal - the best constructed lenses are the old Takumars. They are the smallest and best made.
Summary: I have owned the FA 31 limited for about a year, now. I went through a number of lenses in that focal length along the way. I shot for a long time with the Pentax DA 35mm f2.8 Macro Lens for Pentax K Mount Camera]. I really liked it, but it wasn't fast enough for low light situations. So, I sold it and bought a [[ASIN:B000FG6CME Sigma 30mm f/1.4 EX DC Lens for Pentax and Samsung Digital SLR Cameras .
Excerpt: First a critique of B&H shipping. It's a [$] lens, please pack the lens carefully. The box arrives semi-crunched. The one single bag of air that was put in the box is deflated. The lens box has a small rip in it. Surprisingly the lens works. This is not the first time B&H has used such skimpy packing or where the bag is deflated, but the first time the product box appeared to suffer as a result.
Excerpt: This is a really sharp lens, that oozes quality! Having a few Pentax FA lenses already this filled a gap in the range. Impressively sharp lens, but not the best if you plan to shoot against the sun, as it then gets a bit soft. Recent shooting, with this lens, and an FA77, they proved equals when having the sun behind your back, but not as good when having the sun shining in your face. Could maybe be a back-focusing issue - will investigate!
Pros: Durable, Easily Interchangeable, Nice Bokeh, Rugged, Sharp at all focal length, Strong Construction
Excerpt: got my version and love the feel immediately. solid constructions. love the Depth of view. easy to get the dreamy effect. bad thing was when use in manual focus.. theres this Grinding Sound being produced. check with other users and determine that it wasn't normal. now awaiting a replacement from B&H.
Pros: Durable, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Nice Bokeh, Strong Construction
Excerpt: Tried 6/2011 on K-5. CAs very noticeable in high contrast scenes, and not fixed by K-5 lens correction settings. Fine bokeh at 1.8, but not nearly as good for most close flower pix as 35mm 2.8 Macro (even within the 31mm's focus range). Sharp for some landscape pix (though not noticeably more so than 2.8, using FHD monitor at 100%), but less impressive than 2.8 in a 4-photo landscape panorama in terms of color and contrast, and not noticeably sharper, even when shot at...
