A Legendary Lens Beats the Rap!

Waterfall, B&H Photo
18 November 2014
  • Excerpt: The FA 77 is a fine short telephoto I have found useful for landscapes, wildlife and portraits. There is a magical quality to the light captured by this lens and the contrast and colors are the most vivid of my Three Amigos (FA31, FA43 and FA77).
  • Pros: Consistent Output, Durable, Easily Interchangeable, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Lightweight, Nice Bokeh, Rugged, Strong Construction

Great for portraits

Itai Danan, Amazon
13 November 2014
  • Summary: This is a sharp lens and just like week Pentax Forum named Best of All Lenses. How well does it live to its expectations? Really well, unless you own a K-3 that it, in which case it's good, just not THAT good. On the K-5 family, it's a little soft wide open, like most such lenses. Once you get to F/2.8, it is very sharp and delivers the 16 MP needed by those cameras. Its focal-lengths makes for some tight portraits with really nice bokeh.

Jarvis Christian, Amazon

  • Summary: This is a lens whose reputation is best known in all of the pentax lens, outstanding optical technology, inside the focus is as sharp as the blade, and outside the focus is melt as cream, almost all of the customers of pentax want to have this lens, this is a full frame lens but it is a pity that the pentax camera didn't have a full frame camera.

Can't say enough about this lens.

J. Bennett "Earlyadopt", Amazon
2 April 2014
  • Summary: I've been shooting Pentax over 5 years and struggled with the purchase of this fine lens. (Mainly because of the high cost of admission!). Really tough, parting with just under a grand for a 47mm f1.8 lens. Bought the FA 43 a few months ago. Phenomenal lens. Gorgeous colors with silky smooth transitions, just a joy. BUT, not quite wide enough...I'm a portrait shooter. I won't be selling it, but still needed something wider.. Had an FA 50.

ONE FANTASTIC PRIME!!!

SALTFLY, Adorama
28 January 2014
  • Excerpt: I met a Leica factory employee who told me this lens was the sharpest ever tested in their labs, every bit the equivalent of Leica glass.........and now I believe him. This lens is sharp throughout the range and the color rendition is superb It is simply the best of all the Pentax primes, all of which are excellent.

The Finest AF Lenses

  • Excerpt: These are film-era lenses with screw-drive autofocus. Pretty quick but make a slight noise. The older SMC coating is also prone to fringing wide-open in high contrast situations. Luckily there's a PP adjustment in your Pentax body to help minimize.Quirks aside, they quite possibly capture the most stunning and vibrant photos on film or your DSLR sensor.Which help explain their continued production and high demand. The FA-77 is the ideal portrait lens.

Luckily there's a PP adjustment in your Pentax body to help minimize.
