Summary: I use this lens for nature and outdoor photography, as well as for some portraits. And I love it! It is so well-built and its sharpness is wonderfull. Also bokeh is excellent, maybe better at 2.8 than the fastest 2.4, but this is matter of personal taste. I enjoy a lot its size and weight - it is so easy to carry this lens anywhere I go, even for a whole day trip.
Pros: - built quality is superb, - excellent sharpness, - lovely Bokeh, - size and weight, - front screw size (saves a lot money on filters), - price
Cons: For weaknesses I really have to think for a while:, - maybe a bit slower and noisier AF compared to SDM lenses, - people tend to laugh when they see it mounted on the camera....:o) (and so they do with the 40mm pancake lens)
Summary: This super-compact lens is one that now accompanies me any time my K10D does. Its AF is fast, albeit not silent, and the slight telephoto is great for candid shooting and scenery. It is scenic use for which I most highly recommend it. Pentax's DA lenses deliver beautifully saturated results, and this excels. Greens are rich, and halation is minimal. My only gripes are that it is fiddly to manually focus and that it loses its ultra-thin feel the minute you mount the hood.
Summary: Unbelievable lens - I read review after review and finally on impluse bought the lens today. Spent the afternoon shooting and am amazed at the quality of the images. Focus is fast and colour rendition is perfect Pentax. This will be ideal for portrait work.
Pros: Consistent Output, Lightweight, Sharp Focus, Strong Construction
Summary: This is one of the best lenses I have used to date, sharp through out even to the corners even wide open. nice small light weight and very well made lens. Has a nice 3d effect like most other pentax limited lenses. AF is fast but it's old style screw drive with a bit of noise. This lens is VERY well made and feels great.
Pros: Consistent Output, Durable, Easily Interchangeable, Easy To Clean, Lightweight, Rugged, Sharp Focus, Strong Construction
Summary: Right out of the box I got awesome image quality from this lens - seemingly without effort. I find especially portraits and product shots simply pop with gorgeous color, bokeh and a nice rounded in focus area. f/2.4 is fast enough and produces DOF that isn't too razor thin. It retains a high level of resolution across the frame at all apertures. The lens is beautifully made. Highest recommendation.
Pros: Consistent Output, Durable, Lightweight, Sharp Focus, Strong Construction
Summary: Bought this lens just before a 3 week photo trip thru the west. I stopped even getting my bag out of the car when I would shoot. Of the 1700 shots I took, 95% were with this lens, the others were with a 16-45 for wide angle impact. So fast, so sharp, so contrasty, beautiful color rendition. What more can I say? Expertise: Pro/Am Problems Encountered: Makes me want to get all the limiteds. Previous Equivalent Item Owned: None comes close.
Summary: To many, this review will be a case of preaching to the converted. Pentax's series of "Limited" have acquired legendary status amongst Pentax users, and there will be many who know this model's reputation very well. However, there will be some who are wondering whether it's really worth the money, and there will be others who are wondering what the fuss is all about in the first place. So I'll start with the fuss.
