Summary: I recently bought the Pentax K30 camera, which in the opinions of most, is the best camera ever made by Pentax. And it only cost $485. Without going into the details of this amazing camera, I can only say that it is totally user friendly and has an amazing ISO range, which makes it usable in almost any light. I'm saying this because when used with excellent lenses it greatly enhances the users ability to take great shots. ENTER THE PENTAX DA 55-300 ZOOM LENS!
Excerpt: I got this baby with my k-01 as double zoom kit lens, paid 42000 JPY for the kit with the DA L 18-55. As much as i got used to it, i did not need the 18-55 unless i need wide angle, e.g. indoors, and when i am out for shooting, most of the time it is on.
Excerpt: Love this lens. Massive telephoto photography (82mm - 450mm equiv) at a budget price. Great for sports, birds, planes -- action. Perfect, handheld, in daylight. Baseball pix below at f/9, 1/640, ISO 400... taken at field level near 3rd base. Basically, I run around with it on TAv at f/10, 1/500, ISO whatever... works for fast snapshots anywhere in the zoom range. Interestingly, at 300mm, it stops down to f/32 without diffraction... but you'll need a tripod.
Excerpt: This Pentax 55-300 DA-L lens can deliver reasonably sharp photos, even at 300mm and wide open, with minimal CA. My copy has no zoom creep and is all solid when mounted on my K30. In comparison to a screw-driven Minolta 100-200 f4.5 zoom I used to own, the autofocus is slower but still performs adequately in most situations. The Pentax 18-55 kit lens is quicker in comparison too.
Pros: Relatively Sharp, sufficient build quality, good performer for the price
