best sub-$500 lens I have found yet

combustionscientist, Ebay
2 November 2012
  • Summary: I believe this is the cheapest DA* lens and it doesn't let down from that category either. The autofocus with this on a K5 is extremely quick and accurate.

Fastest focus, extreme sharpness, smallest! High quality A++++

martinpalatsi, Ebay
15 September 2011
  • Summary: I bought this product because it´s price and aperture point. A 35mm lens allow you to make photos in the same size eyes see. With 40mm allow you to zoom in just a bit and this makes that photo doesn´t change in composition but in focusing the motive. Positive things are the acurate focus, and extremely fast movement. The hood comes with objective, it is metall made.

Pentax 40mm f2.8 limited

tbronaugh, Ebay
21 December 2010
  • Summary: As is the case with all Pentax limited lenses, they are well worth the extra money. High contrast even wide open, very fast and accurate focusing, buttery soft bokeh, and build quality is top notch. The only draw back, is that, once you have one, nearly every lens you use going forward does not measure up, leaving you wanting yet another one!

Pentax smc DA 40mm f/2.8 Lens

mireamarius, Ebay
9 February 2010
  • Summary: Pros: Size and weight Warm colors Very sharp from f4 A little soft wide-open but nothing disturbing, more on the good side with portraits in available light Fast focusing (although a little noisy) Excellent for low profile street photography Nice, sturdy metal&glass feel and behaviour (but preferably do not drop this little gem) No internal motor that could eventually break Cons: Strange lens hood, easy to loose, better use a normal lens cap and a classic hood and leave...

great lens, great price, great performance

rayk25, Ebay
10 August 2009
  • Summary: a fixed-focal-length lens forces me to study composition more and to work at it rather than zoom in or out. this delightfully compact lens does just that. i've used it as a 60mm-equivalent on my digital pentax and as a 40mm on my *ist. it performed well in both cases. it's light and unobtrusive. i recommend it.

Great Fast Prime lens

rli5311, Ebay
8 April 2009
  • Summary: Pros: Compact. Fast. Sharp. Aceeptable at low light with high ISO. Cheap price for a AF prime lens. Cons. Screw in lens cap, not a big deal, but takes time to unscrew it out, i replaced with a regular snap in one.

Excellent, inexpensive prime for DLSR Pentax

thrasis, Ebay
4 April 2009
  • Summary: This is one of Pentax's 'pancake' lenses and when you hold one in your hand, you'll see why they call them that. This is an ultra small, fixed focal length prime. It is about 1/2 or 1/3 the size of my 50mm fixed af. Great if you want a light weight travel lens. Being one of the 'limited' lenses means that the glass in this unit is a little better than the run of the mill DA line. Good color rendition. Sharp often even up to way open.

Very good lens.

phantom777, Ebay
1 February 2009
  • Summary: Yeah, you already know this tiny thing is the most compact pro-lens you could ever imagine :) Despite it's tiny look, it's a very solid performer! Sharp as a tack wide open, good saturation, minimal CA, fast focusing, what more can you wish? What it lacks is the color saturation, again wide open, otherwise - a nice addition to your Pentax lens bag. Ah, did I mention it's tiny?
