Pentax 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 ED AL IF SMC DA review by Waratah

Summary: I think I was blessed with a great copy of this lens. It produces shots damn near as good as the 50-135. Wish it was weather resistant. Fairly slow focus but that's less of an issue on the k5II than the k200d. Always feels better knowing this lens is available - whatever I'm shooting from models to landscapes - even if its buried deep in my pack sometimes.
Pros: Versatile, pretty well built, great photos in right conditions
Summary: Used for family/hobby shots. It is an excellent lens. Given its price, it would be hard to beat the value. Images are sharp and colorful with my k100d. Only negative is zoom creep which is a small annoyance when you forget to lock it.

Summary: I have always enjoyed the Pentax film cameras and was pleased when the K10D arrived (I went Canon 20D because I wasn't sold on the early Pentax DSLRs), allowing me to use my Takumar lenses. However when the Pentax 18-250 came available I thought it would be great to cut down the weight and the lens switching.
Pros: light weight, wide range of focal length, great travel lens for reasonable cost
Cons: not great for low level light, significant vignetting at wide angle and low light, looses significant sharpness at larger aperatures
Summary: General purpose. Good light (until 200mm), accurate focusing (mf and af), good colors, strong construction, very good zoom and panoramic, hold key. Slow focusing at 250mm, heavy, not much light at 250mm. I buy it again if I have another choice...
Pros: Consistent Output, Easy To Clean, Sharp Focus, Strong Construction
Summary: Purchased for my wife's K10. She had a similar lens (18-250)on a Minolta film camera and loved it. She was not satisfied with the range on the standard lens (18-55). She has been in heaven since receiving this lens. It takes great photos. Everything from hurricane Ike damage in my home to hummingbirds at the feeder. It has great range and is the best everyday lens available. It is a hard to find lens and somewhat expensive but oh so worth it.
Pros: Consistent Output, Durable, Sharp Focus, Strong Construction
Summary: If light is not strong and omniprescent this lens never focuses,I mean NEVER. Always creeps, its too loud. Its heavy yes, but I expected that for a zoom with that range. In little less than superbright light NEVER FOCUSES!
