Excerpt: This lens is a real joy to use. I bought the K-3 combo this December and have been very pleased with the photos. With time, I figured out to use it even more efficiently. The lens has its drawbacks, especially the softness at corners but fortunately there are a few workarounds.
Excerpt: Used with K5 IIs. Terrific walkaround general purpose lens that is robust with a small footprint. I a not a pixel peeper....just a very satisfied shhoter. Quick accurate focus and quite sharp for a slower zoom. It mates perfectly with the K-5 IIs.
Excerpt: I have this lens and I love it. No it is not a prime it is a zoom. This beats the 18-55 Kit lens hands down. The lens is surprisingly sharp. Yes you do some distortion at the wide end but nothing that can be fixed in post and it is only at the very corners.
Excerpt: After pushing through all the negative reviews I decided that this lens could still be sharper than my DA 18-55mm WR. I initially had a K-30. On that camera it performed quite well. However, I recently bought a K-3. On the K-3 with AA simulation turned off, this lens is very sharp.
Pros: Sharp, sharp, sharp.
Cons: A bit softer at the corners, but still reasonably sharp
Summary: Excellent lens. Paired with K3, K5 and earlier Pentax bodies back to 2004 versions and all functions work well. Couldn't detect noticeable distortion, CA or light falloff across all focal lengths. Have used in rain and snow and lens is sealed perfectly.
Excerpt: I got the lens as part of my K-3 kit and I have used it extensively. The build quality is very good, is coming heavy but not too bad for the range. Sharpness is good as long as you know how to get it, apparently by my experience around f 6-7 the lens is dead sharp with a nice bokeh.
