Excerpt: I've now had the 16-50mm DA* for six months. I bought it second-hand, and immediately had to have the SDM motor and gears replaced (this was paid by the seller, by refunding the repair cost). After the weather sealing on my K-7 failed, some humidity entered the lens, causing the aperture to seize up; I was rather unpleasantly surprised, since I thought I had allowed the lens to dry out for long enough after the incident.
Summary: I have had this lens for more than a year now and my experience is unfortunately quite mixed. I used it mainly for landscapes, with additonal filtering (Hoya Pro 1 D polarizer and Cokin P system). At the very beginning I noticed the front element was a bit loose (could move about 1mm front and back without zooming), but was ensured this was not a problem. Later on (after about 6 months) it suddendly stopped to focus - or at least I thought so.
Pros: - Weather sealed, - Sharpness, - Color accuracy
Cons: - Questionable durability/solidness (definitely in my case), - Poor flare resistance, - High level of chromatic aberration, - Needs the largest (and most expensive) square filters (vignetting is visible even with a wide-angle adapter for Cokin P system), - High price
Summary: A dream lens except for two flaws: 1. On a K10 my lens cannot decide on the focus distance beyond 25 feet; the focus indicator blinks continually preventing the shutter from releasing. Be prepared to shift to manual focus at longer distances. This problem occurs even when attempting to focus on sharp contrasting edges on the subject. 2. I question the durability claims.
Summary: A fantastic lens under controlled conditions. However, very poor in high contrast situations and produces very poor bokeh at f/2.8 and 16mm. Very well constructed, quick and silent focus, somewhat heavy but well balanced.
Summary: Dieses Objektiv löst gemischte Gefühle aus.
