Excerpt: This lens is my go to family event lens. Great indoors at F2.8 and outstanding at F5.6 outside. For those that knock off points because of SDM failure is simply not fair to this lens. I say get over it. Get it fixed and move on with taking great pictures. These lenses are a bargain at used prices.
Pros: Sharpness, Color reproduction,contrasty
Cons: Wish it was 2.0 but that would make it even larger
Excerpt: I have had this lens for over a year now and I decided to write a review to bring some justice back to this lens: this lens is PHENOMENAL!! Don't make your choice based on the numbers from different reviews. The sharpness of this lens and color rendition is exceptional. Love the wide angle, 16mm, aperture at 2.8, weather sealing, built...
Summary: No matter where my wife and I go with our cameras this lens is always with us. It is just too versatile to stay at home. A must have for any Pentax owner, especially if you plan on extreme conditions.
Excerpt: The smc Pentax-DA* 16-50mm F/2.8 ED AL [IF] SDM is a very desirable lens which (thanks to its convenient focal range) allows to take pictures in a variety of genres, may it be architecture, interiors, landscapes or portraits. The constant maximum aperture of 2.8 at all focal lengths only increases the attractiveness of the lens.
Pros: fast constant aperture, sealed body, very good AF with K-5 IIs
Excerpt: Rented this lens for the last two weeks on the wonderful Big Island of Hawaii. Really enjoyed it and now debating on buying it on the big sale this week. I absolutely did not like that on the wider angles, the on-board flash left a shadow in the bottom part of the picture. Makes the casual snap shot useless. No one ever mentioned that in the reviews and of course this is the reason to rent first.
Pros: sharp, good brokeh
Cons: on board flash will leave a shadow! So lens flare.
