Summary: a tad expensive considering it is a rebranded Tokina 12-24 which sells for about $500 for other DSLRs. This may or may not have different lens coating. I'd really like to give it 4.5 stars because I have taken so many great pictures with this lens. Would rate 5 stars if it was closer to $500.
Summary: Being primarily a landscape shooter, a wide angle lens is necessary. In APS-C with a 1.5 crop factor, the Pentax 12-24 gives an equivalent 18-36mm field of view. Although great landscapes can be done with telephoto lenses, dramatic framing with a wide angle can mreally make for a great composition.
Excerpt: You can feel the loss of light as its not f/2.8 indoors. Haven't had a chance to use it outdoors. With my Pentax K5, I have an accurate auto-focus issue with my Sigma 17-70mm which was't there with the K10D. Facing similar focus with this lens as well. Otherwise, great landscape lens.
Excerpt: great for landscapes, streetscapes, and anywhere you need wide angle. clear, crisp color..well made.....it's just that dang distoration in the corners at 12mm that keep it from being a 5 star lens.
Pros: Consistent Output, Durable, Easily Interchangeable, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Lightweight, Nice Bokeh, Rugged, Strong Construction
Excerpt: Primarily I shoot wide angle in the portrait (vertical) position while backpacking and climbing. I purchased this lens with the Pentax K-7 to replace my aging Zeiss and 10 megapixel system. Pros: This lens performs admirably compared to the Zeiss.
Excerpt: Needed an ultra wide lense and this fits the bill for me. Very sharp into corners, has exceeded all my expectations. Having said that I am but a beginner at this game.Only negative is the size and weight. The hood is enormous and I have trouble fitting into my bag.
Excerpt: I'm using this lens on my K10D - The quality of the optics is great - but I was surprised to see very significant vignetting when set at 12 mm, by the supplied lens hood, even without using any filters.
Vivid color, amazing linearity, sharp to corners - but delicate alignment

Summary: Pop Photo (Apr-06) praised this lens as a "Wide Winner" for spectacular performance on bench testing: excellent image sharpness and contrast; imperceptible distortion ["best of breed"]; and barely notable vignetting at the short end.
