REVIEW: Pentax SMC 100mm f2.8 D FA Macro

16 December 2008
  • Conclusion: In a system that boasts the compact size of it’s dSLR cameras, this lens fits well being solidly made and finished without being accompanied by a lot of bulk. The wide open performance is a little disappointing for a prime lens but improves rapidly once stopped down.
  • Pros: Good build and finish, Performance peaks in the right place, Lightweight in keeping with system
  • Cons: Disappointing performance wide open, Lack of focus limiter, which is needed, Extending front element negates effectiveness of the hood.

Pentax SMC-FA 100mm f/2.8 macro - Review / Lab Test Report

31 October 2008
  • Conclusion: The Pentax SMC-FA 100mm f/2.8 macro is an very good lens without significant weaknesses. The resolution level is very high (although not exceedingly so) from f/2.8 all the way down to f/22 (nominal, the effective aperture is probably larger). Distortions are absent and CAs are not field-relevant.

Pentax SMC-D FA 100mm f/2.8 macro - Review / Test Report

23 September 2007
  • Conclusion: The Pentax SMC-D FA 100mm f/2.8 macro is a very good lens which is capable to provide very high sharpness till f/16. However, the resolution could be a little better at f/2.8 whereas the contrast level is already excellent here.

Expert Review

22 February 2011
  • Cons: wolny, głośny i średnio celny autofokus.
