It's a Traaap!!!

  • Summary: The lens I received was a DAL 50-200mm, not the DA. The title and photo depict the more robust, metal bodied DA lens; while the actual product is the DAL budget version made of plastic. This listing appears to be completely fabricated using the lower price point as a way to coerce consumers into buying a lesser product. The DAL is a good lens, though not what is being advertised.

Great Lens for th Price, Speedy delivery

GQ, B&H Photo
29 December 2014
  • Excerpt: First of all this is a real DA WR lens, not a DAL that has been removed from a camera kit, be careful on other sites because they offer at similar price the less expensive kit lenses. B&H was great in delivering this fast regardless the season holidays and the lens price was very good for a great lens at this price point.
  • Pros: Compact Design, Easy To Use, Improves Picture Quality

  • Excerpt: I picked this lens since I wanted to make sure I felt comfortable switching from Canon to Pentax, it didn't make since to drop a lot of money in case I would have returned the camera. But it's a keeper as well as the lens, this is a good, inexpensive and light weight if you just want a walk-around lens that you can take out in inclement weather.
  • Pros: Light weight|WR|Inexpensive
  • Cons: Slow focus for action sports

Not even the lens I ordered!

  • Summary: I ordered the DA 50-200mm lens and received the cheaper DA L 50-200mm lens with plastic mounts. Now for return hassle.

Until I upgrade

Sportsgal501, B&H Photo
2 December 2014
  • Excerpt: I picked up this lens before I decided on which Pentax K-5iis or K-3 I was going to purchase.Weather Resistant, light weight and a zoom was a few of the main reasons. So far it's decent walk-around lens, I will be picking up either the Pentax 18-135mm or f/2.8 by Sigma or Tamron in a few weeks. The photographs are sharp in daylight,in low light it will search a few seconds but will focus quickly.

Pentax 50-200mm f/4-5.6 ED SMC DA WR review by jamesm007

jamesm007, slrgear.com
15 November 2014
  • Summary: Rating this lens is hard. In general, yea its got soft spots and the DA55-300mm is much longer and sharper. However when compared to other APS/FF lens of 50-200mm or 75-300mm this lens is as good. Really better if you put a Sigma 70-300mm APO on a FF. This lens gives the APS shooter a superb bargain then. Better sharpness, small, less costly, and light. This is the lens strongest strength it is small for a telephoto lens.
  • Pros: Just a tad bigger than DA18-55mm. Solid Build. Weather Resistant. Nice Range
  • Cons: It could be a bit sharper. But not bad

  • Summary: I am astounded at the quality for such a modest price. I have taken some amazing photos with this lens on my Pentax K50. The performance outshines other lenses that I've paid over twice as much for.

Buyer beware

where's my money going, Amazon
13 September 2014
  • Summary: As noted by several other buyers the lens I received is not what was advertised. This is the kit lens that Pentax does not sell by itself. It has a plastic mount and no quickshift among other short comings. I have not taken many photos with this lens but initial impression leaves me flat. Slow focus in low contrast situations and less than perfect lighting.
