  • Excerpt: This is my second Pentax Limited Edition lens. The first (HD DA 21) was purchased in May of this year and never ceases to amaze me with magic hour landscape and urban street shots. The 40mm is very special too. Discrete and compact, it works well for walk-around and travel photography.
  • Pros: Image quality, flare resistance, true-to-life colour rendering, build quality, compact size, lens hood, standard 49mm filter size
  • Cons: None - I even like the screw off lens cap!

  • Excerpt: Mine is sharp. Very sharp. I shoot mostly film with a little digital on my K01. I've also owned the DA40XS, which I sold because I didn't like it any better than this lens. I've owned this one for maybe two years now, and ran tons of film through it.
  • Pros: Vibe, usability
  • Cons: Vignetting, if you dislike vignetting

  • Excerpt: I have used this lens regularly for several months and I am well satisfied with it. For me, it has become a 'standard' or everyday/where lens. I have used it to cover weddings, for travel and family events.
  • Pros: Great resolution, dynamic colours, compact
  • Cons: None

  • Excerpt: Admittedly, I paid a fairly small price for this, and that came with a flash unit, an ME, and a case, but it was totally infested with fungus. Considered throwing it away because it was soft and unusable, but after scratching the front to a ridiculous degree, I took it apart and cleaned it, because...

  • Excerpt: Some people seem to have quite a downer on this lens and I have no idea why! Personally I think it makes the perfect standard lens due to it's size, especially on an ME body.
  • Pros: Size, Weight
  • Cons: Min Focussing Distance, Speed, usual price.

  • Summary: Part of the challenge of DSLR photography is finding the motivation to take equipment out as sometimes the stuff can be burdensome compared to say a digicam in your pocket. I take this lens out by itself attached to the K-7 all of the time as it’s just that convenient.
  • Pros: - A great all-rounder type lens that’s almost at the standard focal length for APS-C sized image sensors (35mm would be equivalent)., - A lens that’s frankly special and unique due to how physically convenient it is yet still achieves no compromises image quality., - Small portable size, probably...
  • Cons: - The manual focus ring is almost too small., - I somehow got a small scuff on my manual focus ring, showing a tiny bit of silver aluminum. Not sure how it happened, but don’t expect the lens to stay completely black unless you baby it (I don’t baby my equipment by any means)., - Screw drive auto...
