Summary: This should come with the camera. Does what it should. Have had it out in moderate to heavy rain. No problems. Most people should learn more about what their camera can do in order to get good results. I value the weatherproofing over other features so this lens works out nicely.
Summary: Nice kit with Weather seal ring. Nothing special, but nothing really bad either. A good lens, with limited focal reach of course. Everything else says fine starter lens, but get the 18-135 if funds permit. A better buy. I was limited in the $$$$s department. Likes. Color, sharp for what it is. light, and small too. Not... limited focal length, some barrel distortion at widest aperture. That is it.
Summary: First, consider what this lens is. This is the default "kit" lens bundled with many Pentax camera bodies. Why? Because it provides the best coverage of average focal lengths for the average use. Does that mean it is just an average lens? No, it is definitely above average in many ways. For the cost, even when purchased separately rather than with the camera, this is the best overall lens value for Pentax.
Great kit lens - Better than the original DA 18-55

Summary: I bought the water resistant version of the DA 18-55 to go with my K30. I already owned an older 18-55 which Pentax bundled with my istDS. I have read numerous articles about Pentax improved the optics in newer DA 18-55 lens. Since I now own both an old and new version, I thought I would test the claims. Bottom line is the claims are correct. In my tests, I found both lens perform similar at 55mm both wide open and at f8.
Summary: After I updated the firmware for my K-30 I noticed increased speeds. This lens makes good use of that as it focuses very fast in my opinion. The pictures are very sharp. I love it. Good price, good product, and good service. I'm very happy.
Excerpt: Very useful for a first lens, or when it starts raining and your in that I need a photography fix moment; or on vacation and the weather is not so good. The lens feels well made. Better than most APS kit lens. Has a metal lens mount, Pentax special hood with window slide out to move CPL filters. And good IQ.
Pros: Compact, Durable, Easily Interchangeable, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Lightweight, Solid Feeling, Weather resistant
