Excerpt: Not a bad kit lens at all. When stopped down it can be very sharp, although beware of some field curvature. Very nice build quality and weather sealing in a lens of this calibre is a very nice touch.
Pros: Durable, Lightweight, Rugged, Sharp When Used Correctly, Strong Construction
Excerpt: Title says it all- this lens is very well-built and easy to operate, but suffers from poor optical quality. Lens is moderately-sharp at best, and downright mushy off center. Contrast is low, though color is very good.
Pros: Durable, Easily Interchangeable, Lightweight, Rugged, Strong Construction
Summary: This lens came bundled with my K-5 camera body. While light and compact, this lens lacks build quality you would expect of Pentax product. The end ring of the lens (the one you attach filters and hood to) is loose, especially in extended position. There's visible shift and audible clicking when I try to move it with my finger.
Excerpt: I wanted to like this lens because of its quality build, but its performance lacked. It doesn't like flourescent lights or dark scenes mounted on a K7. The other thing that I didnt expect was the external moving parts while focusing. Having used Canon, Nikon, and Sony slrs prior, this was something i didnt expect. Also, it is very noise when focusing. On a positive note, the feel of this lens was excellent. Lightweight, sturdy, and weathersealed.
