Summary: I've had mine for over 4 years now, and unless I have special needs, this is the lens I take with me, leaving the others home. I took this to the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival the last few years, me on roller skates the whole time (!
Summary: I keep this lens on my K-20 and can always count on it to give me the best results possible. It does extend outward if pointed downward, but once used to that it is not a problem. Just use the lens lock frequently. It lives on my camera and I don't know of a better choice.
Summary: Great go to lens... Its relatively compact and not TOO heavy for such a long lens. Zoom creep is annoying BUT it has a lock to keep the zoom from creeping when stored in a bag or around your neck.
Summary: Pretty much yes. Slow at the full zoom, true; a bit heavy, and tends to creep if not locked (only possible at min zoom), true. BUT against that you have amazing versatility with respect to focal length, and if you don't want to take more than one lens with you or can't waste time changing them, this...
Hard to find... but a must have if you can get it for a reasonable price
S. Vogt, Amazon
20 June 2012
Summary: I was fortunate enough to buy a used copy of this lens in decent shape off of Amazon. This lens can be very hard to find because it is discontinued, but if you see it somewhere in the neighborhood of $500 or below... it's a definite must-have.
Summary: This is a relatively low priced but versatal all-around lens. The built quality is ok and the size is small as compare to Sony 18-250mm lens. This lens is relatively sharp, but with a lot of distortion. So, it is good for land scape but not so good for shooting buildings.
Brilliant Pentax Super Zoom Lens – A must have for any Pentax SLR user
3 August 2011
Summary: This is a review of the SMC Pentax P DA 18-250mm Lens. This is the second one of these that I have bought. My wife has acquired the first one now that she has seen the light and is now using a Pentax K20d SLR instead of a Samsung Bridge camera, hence the need for a second for my K20d.
Summary: The image quality of this lens is nothing short of amazing given its zoom range. It's not a prime, but if you back off of the extreme zoom ranges just a little, and keep the aperture in the sweet spot, the IQ is almost as good as my best prime lenses. I'm loving this lens.
A good walk--around lens when you have limited carrying room.
30 May 2011
Summary: Excellent walk-around lens covering a very broad focal length. A little slow to focus and a bit noisy while doing that, but overall, I have no complaints. Still new, so still not creeping, but the zoom lock is good while walking.
