Slow focus

22 June 2014
  • Excerpt: This is a great lens for indoor photography. Nice small lens, good field of view, excellent construction and image quality is sharp. Unfortunately this lens focuses very slow. The Olympus Zuiko lenses all have blazing fast and silent focus. Not so with Panasonic. Something about the design, it hunt for focus with every shot. Even if you focus and lock in on the subject. If you refocus again it will bring it out of focus and lock in again.
  • Pros: Durable, Easily Interchangeable, Lightweight, Nice Bokeh, Rugged
  • Cons: Slow Focus

Quality Purchase

  • Excerpt: I bought this lens as one of my start out lenses for my Panasonic GH4. For the price, I found this lens to be a perfect fast prime lens to start out with until I have the money to buy more expensive lenses. It is unbelievably tiny, very fast, and a solid focal length.
  • Pros: Consistent Output, Durable, Easily Interchangeable, Lightweight, Nice Bokeh

Good but a tiny bit soft in the corners

Luca, B&H Photo
19 May 2014
  • Excerpt: This lens is light and quite bright. However, it is a tiny bit soft in the corners for my taste. Compared with Four-Third lenses 14-54 and 50mm fixed, this lens is somewhat less sharp in the corners. It is quite sharp in the center, even full open. So it is a great lens for portraiture, but not quite for low-light landscape photography.
  • Pros: Lightweight, Strong Construction
  • Cons: Corner Sharpness

an excellent fast pancake

  • Excerpt: I use the lens for video with GH4, and I would not mind having the option of image stabilization. Since it is functionally 40mm (2x crop on MFT)it is very useful everyday lens.
  • Pros: Fast / accurate auto-focus, Lightweight, Nice Bokeh, Strong Construction

fantastic lens, good value.

10 May 2014
  • Excerpt: I bought this lens to use on my omd em-5, specifically for travelling/tourism, replacing my 12-50mm kit lens. This lens is sharp and compresses well. I used mostly primes back with my D-SLRs and am happy to be back at it with this lens/body combo. not 5 stars due to it's slightly slow auto-focus. I found a few situations where it hunted a bit and is not too quick in it's search.

Great

Chris, Amazon
5 May 2014
  • Summary: I got this to pair up with my DMC-GH3 camera, and I can concur that the image quality you get from this baby is perfect. The lens is very small and compact and the images came out to be superb. The 1.7 gives a perfect balance of blur background and the clarity & color is wonderful. However, I think it is still quite expensive. This is a perfect walk around lens. Highly recommended.
