REVIEW: Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-50mm f/3.5-6.3 EZ

  • Excerpt: This 4.2x zoom lens from Olympus is compatible with Micro Four Thirds system cameras and provides an angle of view equivalent to a 24-100mm lens on a 35mm camera. Unusually for a lens covering this range the maximum aperture is rather slow at the telephoto end at only f/6.3. This lens costs around £300 and sports internal focusing and zoom, a choice of powered or mechanical zooming options, a dedicated focus lock button, a novel macro function and is splash proof.

  • Pros: You want a capable general-purpose lens and it's offered with the E-M5 body., You want superior resolution across a wide range of aperture settings with all focal lengths. Don’t buy this lens if :, You need true macro capabilities., You require a fast lens for low light work and/or differential focusing.

  • Excerpt: The Micro 4/3 system has been developing by leaps and bounds and the number of lenses, currently available, approaches 40 different models. There are a lot of ‘kit’ lenses of 14-42 mm class and also 14-140/150 mm megazoom devices. However none of the producers has offered a ‘kit’ lens which would give you a bit bigger focal length range and a wider angle of view at the same time.
  • Cons: average image quality on the edge of the frame,, very high distortion on the wide angle,, significant vignetting at the shortest focal length,, weak work against bright light.

  • Excerpt: The lens has a very versatile focal range. At the 12mm end, the diagonal angle of view is 84°, i.e. the same as that of a 24mm lens in a 35mm system.

  • Pros: Novel design, Excellent macro feature, Good splash-proof build, Zoom switchable between powered and direct modes, Lightweight
  • Cons: Slow f/6.3 maximum aperture at 50mm, Lower sharpness than many other Micro Four Thirds lenses, especially at 50mm, Prone to flare at 12mm and no hood is supplied as standard

  • Summary: A mikro NégyHarmados rendszerhez bár használhatók a FourThirds objektívek, mégis a MILC-ek igazi előnyét, tudniillik a kis méretet és kis tömeget csak MFT objektívekkel használhatjuk ki. Az egyelőre még fejlesztés alatt álló objektívparkban azonban máris találunk olyat, amelyről elmondhatjuk, hogy más rendszerben ilyen bő szolgáltatású és mégis kedvező árú objektív nem igen van.

  • Summary: Lubię pisać podsumowania testów optyki Olympusa, bo zwykle testowane obiektywy chwalę.
  • Pros: dość solidna i uszczelniona obudowa,, użyteczny zakres ogniskowych,, dobra jakość obrazu w centrum kadru,, rozsądnie korygowana aberracja chromatyczna,, niewielka koma,, mały astygmatyzm,, znikome winietowanie dla dłuższych ogniskowych,, szybki i skuteczny autofokus.
  • Cons: przeciętna jakość obrazu na brzegu kadru,, bardzo duża dystorsja na szerokim kącie,, spore winietowanie na najkrótszej ogniskowej,, słaba praca pod ostre światło.
