Great Lens!

Jason S. Wamsley, Amazon
11 January 2013
  • Summary: Great lens, works very well when attached to the E5. Performs well, focuses quickly, by far my favorite over the others that I own. I gave 4 out of 5 because the only thing that I wish was different was the distance marker, wish it were more detailed.

Not the best for PEN EP-2

bugzar, Ebay
7 October 2011
  • Summary: I bought this lens to adapt onto my PEN EP-2. I think the image quality is very good, although, I mainly wanted to use the lens for making video. Unfortunately, the sound of the auto-focus gears can be heard with the camera's microphone. I use a Electronic viewfinder, so there's no other way to add a mic. The lens auto-focus also jumps around a bit too much. I wish Olympus would make a high-quality ( perhaps zoom ) fast lens for the EP series.

  • Summary: When shooting you can't open the lense up all of the way. If you do you will have a black area in the upper left corner and lower right. This is bothersome to say the least.

14-54 olympus zoom

dgeugene, B&H Photo
28 October 2010
  • Excerpt: Very sharp, fast and heavy. I use an SLR mostly to photograph flat art where I need a better tonal scale than smaller sensors. At around f5 the lightweight, inexpensive kit lens image quality looks about the same so I returned the 14-54.
  • Pros: Durable, Nice Bokeh, Strong Construction

Well worth the investment

Bryan, B&H Photo
13 October 2010
  • Excerpt: Without a shadow of doubt a much better, brighter, sharper lens than the usual kit lens. I use this lens for everything from underwater to panoramic and highly recommend it. Great macro (considering it's not a macro lens) and good shadow detail.
  • Pros: Durable, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Rugged

Worth the Price

Foslrock, B&H Photo
22 July 2010
  • Excerpt: I bought this lens as an upgrade to the 14/42mm lens that comes with the kit. Overall, i'm very happy with the lens, and would recommend it as an upgrade. I've compared the shots taken with this lens against the kit lens, and where the 14/54mm excels is in lower light indoor conditions. The pictures contain a lot less artifacts, and the barrel distortion is also much more minimal at 14mm.
  • Pros: Durable, Easily Interchangeable, Rugged, Strong Construction
  • Cons: Heavy
