Summary: I've always had a 50 prime (1.4 or 1.8) in my bag. I've used four different ones, all competent, but I never got excited about using any of them. A handy focal length for sure, but kind of too "normal." But then I tried out this lens. Wow. It produces images that have a different feel all together. There are certain lenses that for whatever reason have that X Factor, there's a certain "soul" to their images, this is one of them. At 1.2, DOF is extremely shallow.
Summary: This is an outstanding lens. The build quality is unmatched by todays plastic lenses. One other excellent feature is (a must in my opinion) the all metal HS-12 circular lens hood which snaps into my 52mm B&W XS-Pro MRC nano circular polarizer (or any other polarizer/filter). The polarizer can then be adjusted by rotating the hood. The 105mm Ais micro nikkor also uses 52mm filters and it's HS-14 metal circular lens hood also snaps onto the filter.
Excerpt: When I purchased my Nikon DF, I began looking for lenses that fit the retro style and high quality of the camera. I began my life in photography in the 1940's with an Exacta SLR, followed by a series of pentaxes and Nikons. I have always enjoyed being in control of the camera, rather than the camera controlling me, and the manual feel and operation of the DF seemed to fit my style. The D4 sensor with incredible high ISO performance added to the excitement.
