A nice small lens you do not mind taking with you for that special shot.

  • Summary: I was looking at the more expensive zooms like the 16-35 & 14-24 but I did not like how bulky they were, also the price. For me this little lens can just slip in my pocket for those times when you just need to go a bit wider. It tests pretty sharp and even a bit better stopped down equal to the 14-24 monster zoom at around F5.6 - 11. I have read mixed reviews on it and some times too much studying puts you in a standstill.

My Go-To lens!

D80 Steve, Nikon
10 October 2012
  • Summary: I love this lens. It sits squarely on my D80's body 80% of the time. For nearly 30 years I had an FE with a 28mm lens and it was fabulous. Making the jump to digital I looked for another 28mm, but was distracted by the 20mm's impressive reviews. Light weight and easy to carry around for all day excursions. I highly recommend what could very well be one of the best wide angle lens around. And the price won't put you in the poor house. You won't be sorry.

  • Summary: I travel a lot anh have allready a zoom lens Nikon 28-300 mm that works perfect for landscape and people. I miss only one that goes for arkitechture and I considered the 20 mm. After many times failing in ebay-auction, I bought "now" (only 11 dollars extra), and my dream came true! It's a wonderful lens!

I would not purchase the Nikkor 20mm f2.8 D lens for any reason.

  • Summary: I purchased this lens because most of the Nikkor prime lenses have excellent reputations, they are compact and supposed to offer excellent performance. With a Nikon FX body such as a D3 or D700 the lens offers a wide angle of view of 20mm, very wide it will work for most interior and exterior applications. On DX cameras it offers a very nice 30mm angle of view. This is wider than a 35mm lens and makes for a great walk around single focal length lens.

Great build quality, but perhaps not wide enough for DX users.

  • Summary: The lens is built very well. I'm using it on a DX crop-sensor body though, and I wouldn't recommend it. It's not wide-enough, since crop body sensors mean you have to multiply the 20mm focal length by 1.5, which means it's roughly a 30mm lens. It's nice though.
