Great sharp macro lens
28 January 2013
Summary: This is my favorite lens for both fx and dx bodies. I have made more good photographs with this lens then all my other lens. Though it is a bit heavy it is worth it for the images it produces.
Summary: I've had this lens for nearly 5 months and until recently had been using it with my Nikon D7000 and now with my new Nikon D600. This lens is superb on both the DX and FX format cameras. I use it primarily for shooting insects of various types but have occasioned to take a portrait or two and the sharpness of this lens is nothing short of breathtaking.
Summary: I own this incredible nano technology coated lens since 2007 and I have to say no doubt this is my favorite len for portrait & close up. Efficiently fast, razor sharp and well built. This is not a cheap Len but affordable compare to other nano coated lens with Nikon. Most of my favorite images are taken with this Len.
Summary: Excellent addition to my arsenal of Nikon/Nikkor lenses. Nice macro lens and also a good lens for portraiture and scenic shots. For some work, I like primes better for the tones and colors. Takes some getting used to (DOF). This lens does the job very nicely in lower ISO settings. Definitely a keeper.
Summary: This is a fantastic macro lens. It does great for indoor macro photography where one can control the lighting (in a studio set up). And with the Vibration Reduction technology it also works great for hand held macro shots out in the field where lighting may not be perfect and tripods are not always convenient. Although it is a bit heavy I do not find it over encumbering.
Pros: Amazing VR feature, Consistent Output, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Strong Construction
Summary: Wished the lens had the stop dial on it instead of having to adjust the stops via the camera when using manually when I shoot close ups and macro. Don't like G series lenses for that reason. Also would like to see a heavier duty case instead of so much plastic.
Pros: Consistent Output, Easily Interchangeable, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Lightweight, Nice Bokeh
Summary: I purchased this lense because I wanted a good FX macro lense for my D700 that would also be useful for portraits and street scenes. I have high-end Nikkor zooms that are very good lenses and one fixed length (85mm) that is outstanding, though this 105 is by far the best. It is tack sharp, has excellent contrast, very true color, and build quality is solid. And VR is particularly useful when shooting hand-held closeups.
