Excerpt: Since I have been using digitals, I have relied on the kit lens and the older tele zooms from film days. Interested in the 50mm primarily to work with bokeh and it is great at that. Really pleasant blurring of the background that the zooms with 5.6 or so cannot do.
Excerpt: There are lots of review from almost every photography website, thus I don't have to repeat what others have said.

I use this lens primarily for my baby to come. I bought it early because of the Nikon rebate and to get use to it.
I currently have a 35mm 1.8DX, 18-200mm, and a Tokina 11-16mm for my D90.

My 35mm 1.8 is good, but sometimes a little wide for baby (I tested it with my nephew).
Pros: Easy To Use, Fast Focus, Lightweight, Reliable, Sharp
