Summary: I recently purchased this lens with my D7100 after many years away from photography and I could not be more pleased with the decision to start with this lens instead of the kit lens as I was initially hesitant because of the price vs the kit. While I'm sure the kit lens is adequate for general photography, I'm interested in getting on with portrait photography and this lens fits the bill.
Summary: After buying your DSLR camera make this your next immediate purchase!!! You will NOT regret it... Do NOT try and save a few bucks and buy the 1.8, you will regret it... Take it from me, that is what I did first and with every click of the shutter I was kicking myself for not getting the 1.4... I finally couldn't take listening to that "what if" voice in my head any longer so I took a hit and sold the 1.8 on Craigslist and came directly to Amazon and bought the 1.4!!!
Summary: Love the lens for my Nikon D7000 Digital SLR. Works great with automatic focusing, as well as having the protective lens filter. The f 1.4 gives me great photo potential overall. It's a must for all serious photographers. Nikon makes great lenses.

Summary: muy buen lente a un excelente precio, ideal para cámaras con motor de enfoque interno. en mi caso lo uso con una d7000 y los resultados son bueno. la nitidez de este lente es fantástica, muy buena relación precio/calidad.
Summary: I bought this as upgrade from 50mm f/1.8 and use this with D600 camera. The focusing is lot faster and quieter. (You will still hear the noise if you adjust focus while shooting movie, but quieter than old 1.8.) The depth of field is so shallow, you will easily get Bokeh effect. This is the only lense I need daily shooting my new born son. Great for portrait. Only when I go out of the house, I need to change to other lenses.
Summary: I originally bought the f1.8 35mm lens at 200.00, and was consistently getting out of focus pictures regardless of the shooting mode. I sent the 35mm back to Amazon, purchased this 50mm f1.4 and the difference is like night and day. I am using this lens on the new d5200 and the pictures are outstanding, and always in focus even when shooting with this lens aperature wide open, couldnt be happier.
