Summary: I received this item a few days ago and have shot a bunch of photos with it. It's as good as it's cracked up to be in the best of the reviews here and there is no need for me to rehash them. Definitely a 5-star performer. My main, and only, concern is that it doesn't have a "US" in the serial number (though there was a Nikon USA 5-year warranty slip in the box). On the day I bought mine, Amazon directly sold the item, not one of Amazon's affiliates.
Summary: I own the Nikon 50mm 1.8 lens and thought it would be awesome to have the 1.4 version of my beloved prime lens, especially since I shoot a lot indoors. I was surprised that the Nikon 50mm 1.4g was inferior in pretty much all ways to my 1.8! It's much slower to focus, and wide open (apertures wider than 2.8) the images were very soft.
Summary: I recently purchased this lens with my D7100 after many years away from photography and I could not be more pleased with the decision to start with this lens instead of the kit lens as I was initially hesitant because of the price vs the kit. While I'm sure the kit lens is adequate for general photography, I'm interested in getting on with portrait photography and this lens fits the bill.
Summary: After buying your DSLR camera make this your next immediate purchase!!! You will NOT regret it... Do NOT try and save a few bucks and buy the 1.8, you will regret it... Take it from me, that is what I did first and with every click of the shutter I was kicking myself for not getting the 1.4... I finally couldn't take listening to that "what if" voice in my head any longer so I took a hit and sold the 1.8 on Craigslist and came directly to Amazon and bought the 1.4!!!
Summary: Love the lens for my Nikon D7000 Digital SLR. Works great with automatic focusing, as well as having the protective lens filter. The f 1.4 gives me great photo potential overall. It's a must for all serious photographers. Nikon makes great lenses.

Summary: I am a professional photographer (full time for three years) and in those three years I have used this lens primarily. It works for many needs. It can be your best friend - it definitely was mine. But it has terrible chromatic aberration that I just can't deal with any longer. Sometimes it's correctable in post processing, but most often it's not. (At least for me! It's tough. I use LR. Any suggestions?
