  • Excerpt: Originally posted 2010-01-24 on Optyczne.pl Every digital full frame system, available on the market, features an all-purpose lens with the focal length starting from 24 mm and ending somewhere over 100 mm. In the Canon system it is the EF 24–105 mm f/4L IS USM model; when it comes to Sony we get 24–105 mm f/3.5–4.5. In the case of the Nikon there was the Nikkor AF-S 24–120 mm f/3.5–5.6D IF VR, launched worldwide in 2003.
  • Cons: very high chromatic aberration near the maximum relative aperture,, low quality of image on the edge of full frame near the maximum relative aperture,, significant distortion on full frame,, noticeable coma.

Nikkor AF-S 24-120mm f/4G ED VR (FX) - Review / Test Report

photozone.de
16 January 2011
  • Conclusion: The Nikkor AF-S 24-120 mm f/4G ED VR offers an attractive zoom range with excellent sharpness in the image center at the lower end of its focal range. However, the image borders and corners show a little less resolution wide open than we had expected from a lens in this segment. The same applies to the sharpness in general (including the image center) at the lens' tele setting.

  • Summary: A versatile, but quite expensive, 5x standard zoom lens that covers a popular focal length range for general photography.Announced in mid-September 2010, the AF-S Nikkor 24-120mm f/4G ED VR is an update to the popular 24-120mm f/3.5-5.6 VR that features a constant f/4 maximum aperture across the focal length range.
  • Pros: You want a capable, reasonably fast, general-purpose lens to match one of Nikon's larger DSLR bodies., Your preferred subjects include landscapes, portraits, interiors and weddings., You prefer a lens that retains the same maximum aperture throughout its zoom range., You'd like a lens that requires no readjustment when you fit polarisers and graduated filters.
