Summary: This lens has not preformed well since it's purchase. After two returns, the first issue with focus was resolved. However, recently a new issue has appeared. This problem is once again with the focus. When focusing lens has a stutter in it's focus movement. Don't know about others, but would not purchase this lens again. May have purchased a lemon!!!
Summary: I would say this is an average telephoto lens, don't expect too high. Photos are more or less sharp in all focal range in good sunlight. But there is a noticeable vignetting effect (dark corners) when the light is little less, cloudy days or afternoon. Also there is no manual override focus, which is little uncomfortable. You can not fold the lens in the shortest length when the focus switch in Auto position. Overall, just an OK telephoto lens.
Summary: I purchased the 55-300mm VR along with a D5100 body as part of a Nikon promotion. I can say that for the price I paid for it, it is worth the money; however, I would not pay full retail price for it. Pros: -Largest range of telephoto zooms -Lightweight and small for a lens that extends to 300mm -Solid build quality; metal lens mount -Comes with 6-year warranty (US), hood, and soft case Cons: -VR effectiveness is only 2 stops (insufficient for 300mm; see below) -Slow AF...
Summary: I bought this lens because I want to take some photos with a zoom lens. When I saw this Lens has Japanese Warranty, I thought this lens must be made in Japan, so I bought it,But when I recived, it's made in china. I don't like this point.
Summary: The build and scope of this lens seems fair enough, considering its current price of $250. For my personal use, though, it was a bit large and heavy, and the focusing distance from lens to object was too much (this I could have discovered by reading the fine print). The overall "look" of the pictures were nice, but I did discover some chromatic aberration in the images.
Summary: I purchase this item in Nov 2011 for 400$. But when I checked on black friday and cyber monday the price was too less, just 200 $. So what is the real price for this? I have one question, regarding do we get used items on black friday or refurbished one?. I have not used this lens frequently, need to figure out, but Nikon brands always work good.
