Summary: Since I had my camera, I wanted a prime lens to use most of the time without changing lenses all the time. This 35 mm. lens gets most of the frames I want anyway without zooming in or out. The fact is this lens works in lower light without the use of a flash, since I rather have natural lighting anyway, makes it a plus. I think this lens is an around useful, just for taking photos at weddings and family gatherings. Works great for outside scenic shots the best, I think.
Excerpt: Although this lens is a prime lens, it is very versatile ! If you are looking for a lens that is compact and can offer a little of everything this is the lens for you. It works beautifully as a macro lens capturing small details. But is tack sharp at longer focal lengths. This is one of my new favorites! I think for the price you really can't go wrong. This is my 5th lens I have purchased from Nikon and its nothing short of amazing!!!
Summary: Bought this prime lens after about 2-3 years of shooting with my first-ever dSLR, the Nikon D60. I can say that this prime is a huge step up from the 18-55mm kit lens in many respects. First, the 35mm opens up, way up. You can't beat the 1.8 f-stop on this thing. The big aperture lets in a lot more light than the kit lens. Shooting flashless has never been so much fun with this lens.
Excerpt: If you have a DX format camera and do not have this lens you are missing out. Everything about this lens is fantastic. It is in my opinion the best value lens on the market as far as price vs performance goes. This lens is on my camera 90% of the time. It is my go to lens for portraits, street, candid and all around people photography. If you want to take your photography up a few notches from the kit lens you can not do any better for the money than this lens.
