  • Summary: I Have to admit I am disappointed with this lens I bought it to replace my 18-55 and 70-300 lens. The good is fast and accurate focus, and you don't have to change lenses constantly. the Bad is the Lens is much softer then I expected, for the price you might want try the Tammaron, When you spend 900 dollars for a lens I think you should expect get a sharp crisp image, my cellphone actually does a better job !

Not a sports lens.

MacroMama, Nikon
10 September 2014
  • Summary: I bought this lens primarily for my daughters soccer games. I need the 300 to get across the field and 18 for when the girls run up to me at the sidelines. In theory, it sounds like a great idea; however the quality isn't good for sports. When zoomed even to a 200, the photos are distorted and shaky. I have also noticed the Continuous Shooting Speed has slowed down, which has prevented some of those OMG did you see that moments.

Disappointed

Peeps27, Amazon
29 May 2014
  • Summary: Sold the old version to buy the 3.5-6.3 version from UK distributor. First time out lens was OK and had good results. On second use in studio had major problems. With VR ON the lens would not focus properly, with VR OFF the lens focussed OK. Returned the lens for a refund and bought the Sigma 18-250 Macro instead.

Spots

Editrice, Amazon
17 February 2014
  • Summary: almost $1000 for this. almost every shot i take with it has numerous spots that i have to edit out. cleaning the camera's image sensor does not help. guessing it's dust inside lens from manufacturing process (or when they put it together). my particular lens was made in thailand rather than japan. i've heard some expensive lenses have this problem but it's the first time i've encountered it in 40 years of buying cameras/lenses. i do not recommend purchase of this lens.

Too heavy and bulky

Joe Thundertruth, Adorama
7 May 2013
  • Excerpt: I liked the lens, it was fast and had good focus acquisition. Unfortunately it was too heavy and bulky for my taste. I travel extensively, and it was too much to schlepp around with. Tamron has Nikon beat in this area, and I hope Nikon will re-tool the lens and come out with a smaller, lighter version.
  • Pros: Fast, Fast / Accurate Auto-Focus

Encountered Significant Problems

Kathleen C. Loftin, Amazon
5 November 2012
  • Summary: I ordered the new Nikon D3200 and this lens kit. I did not have great results. I sent both back. I could not get a sharp picture. The photos also looked dusty, and noisy, and some were just completely out of focus. There also were red and blue ghosts along the edges of objects in the pictures. Even shooting outside with good light these problems were evident. Also, in every shot the depth of field was very shallow.

User Review

Mauro, DeCamaras
1 September 2014
