Best value avail for an all purpose walk-around lens on a Nikon DX AF-S
17 September 2014
Summary: For a relatively inexpensive 'walk-around' lens for your Nikon DX format camera, it's hard to beat the value of the Nikon 18-200 VR Model 2159. The optics and the build quality are better than the off-brands. You can spend an extra $100 to $200 on the VR II Model 2192 (which allows you to 'lock' the lens at 18mm to prevent 'lens creep', but you'll get the same quality imaging as the older 2159.
Excerpt: I use his lens mainly for landscape and candid portrait work. I do most of my work on the coast of the north shore of Long Island. I need a lens with good mid range and the 18-200 fits the bill, It produces sharp images at all focal lenghts.
Excerpt: I have had this lens for several years and use it almost exclusively, forgoing most of my fixed length lenses except for "super telephoto". The lens is fast, versatile and provides clear sharp images, while zooming quickly and steadily. I seldom use the autofocus, so I can't really comment on that, but otherwise I would recommend this lens for almost any use short of full professional.
