Summary: Gave it a good try but returned it. Bottom line up front, soft in the corners and a little soft always when focused past a few feet at the longer end of the focal length. The good: excellent sharpness at 10-16mm especially when focused close, and, it will focus down to inches. It would be great for someone engaged in mid level real estate photography not for a high end full page add customer.
Excerpt: I've gone through a few of these hoods over the years. They're lightweight but they do have weak points where they tend to break - where the "petals" meet. That said, I think they have saved my lenses from damage at least once.
Excerpt: Nikon 10-24mm f/3.5/4.5G is a decent quality lens but not the quality of the Nikon 12-24 F4. It is still a good usable lens but should not be classified in the "Pro Use" category. This lens extends and contracts during zoom in and zoom out creating a "dust pump". I have both lenses and keep the 12-24 in my bag with a 10.5 for tight areas. I use the 10-24 for vacation and casual use.
Great in the day...but at night its another story.

Excerpt: I have been using this lens for several months, and it is a great lens for the price, and produces just some awesome colour reproduction during the day within minimal edge distortion. For those who experiment a lot with night time long exposure photography, there are some focusing issues at night. I have tried all sorts of settings and exposures and as soon as the sun goes down you need to change to another lens.
