Nikkor AF-S DX Micro 85mm f/3.5G ED VR

Camera Labs

  • Excerpt: The AF-S DX Micro-Nikkor 85mm f/3.5G ED VR was Nikon's first macro-lens designed specifically for DX-bodies. And it's only the second macro lens that offers image-stabilization following its larger cousin, the AF-S VR Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED. As an AF-S model, it'll autofocus on any Nikon body, but again it's only optically-corrected for DX-format DSLRs.

  • Excerpt: While I hope to create a full Nikon 85mm f/3.5G AF-S DX VR Micro Lens evaluation, my first priority is to include results from this lens in the lens comparison tools. This page currently exists because it is required by the database and content management systems for the posting of those standard test results.

  • Excerpt: ;This is Nikon's first 1:1 Micro Nikkor in the DX (APS-C) format. With a street price of $500, it offers D3000, D500, D300, and D90 shooters true close-ups--with Vibration Reduction II--at a much lower cost than Nikon's other VR macro, the $890, full-frame, 105mm f/2.8G.

  • Pros: Good sharpness at optimum apertures, Lightweight, Vibration Reduction, Internal focusing
  • Cons: No focus limiter switch (although autofocus is fairly swift without it), Although good, clarity isn't as impressive as some other Micro Nikkors

AF-S DX Micro 85 mm f/3.5G ED VR

  • Conclusion: If you compare the number of pros and cons and realize it is one of the cheaper macro lenses with the focal lengths ranging from 60 to 105 mm, the Nikkor 3.5/85 VR can be a very interesting option for potential customers. If only the producer decided to use the focus limiter there would be simply nothing to complain about.
  • Cons: significant vignetting at the maximum relative aperture,, lack of focus limiter, which would speed up the autofocus.

Micro Nikkor AF-S DX 85mm f/3.5 G ED VR - Review / Test Report

photozone.de
3 June 2010
  • Conclusion: The Micro Nikkor AF-S DX 85/3.5 VR is an attractive option for DX shooters looking for a dedicated macro lens. It's rather light-weight and compact, delivers very sharp images wide open already, which can be considered distortion free (at least for typical macro subjects) and show only minimal traces of CAs. The bokeh is nice and smooth, just a tad underdeveloped for normal tele use due to the lack of speed.

  • Excerpt: As noted above, the Nikon AF-S DX Micro-Nikkor 85mm f/3.5G ED VR lens has a Silent Wave Motor for quiet auto-focus and full-time manual override support. In use we have found the AF to be very-very quiet indeed, and fairly fast too, at least for a macro lens. Manual focus is by way of a wide, ribbed focus ring that is mechanically coupled to the moving lens elements. Focusing is smooth and precise.

  • Conclusion: AF-S DX Micro NIKKOR 85mm f/3.5G ED VR to bardzo dobrze wykonany produkt, którego własności mechaniczne sugerują, że mamy do czynienia z wysokiej klasy sprzętem. Pierścień ostrzenia pracuje sprawnie i dokładnie, obudowa jest zamknięta  i podczas zwiększenia skali odwzorowania tubus nie wydłuża się. Jeżeli chodzi o właściwości optyczne, to znajdziemy kilka słabostek AF-S DX Micro NIKKOR 85mm f/3.5G ED VR.
  • Pros: bardzo dobra praca pod światło,, bardzo dobra jakość wykonania mechanicznego,, mała dystorsja,, stabilizacja obrazu VR II,, niska waga i małe rozmiary,, tubus nie zmienia swojej długości podczas ostrzenia,
