Nikon AF-S Nikkor 58mm f/1.4G

PC Magazine
18 January 2014
  • Conclusion: The Nikon AF-S Nikkor 58mm f/1.4G is optimized to eliminate certain optical aberrations, but its sharpness is disappointing.
  • Pros: Design minimizes sagittal coma. Even illumination across the frame. Capable of a very shallow depth of field.
  • Cons: Not that sharp at wider apertures. Some barrel distortion. No optical stabilization. Expensive.

REVIEW: Nikon AF-S Nikkor 58mm f/1.4G Lens Review

photodo
16 January 2014
  • Excerpt: This standard lens from Nikon costs around £1560 and sports a bright f/1.4 maximum aperture, silent focusing and nano-crystal coatings to help control ghosting and flare. The 58mm focal length is reminiscent of the old AI 'Noct' Nikkor that was designed specifically for shooting in low light with a...

  • Summary: The 58mm f/1.4G was a bit of a surprise. Nikon already has quite a few lenses available in the "normal" focal length range for FX, so why another one? First, a little history. One of Nikon's most well-corrected lenses was a 58mm, the f/1.2 NOCT.

Nikon 58mm f/1.4 G Review

Ken Rockwell
16 December 2013
  • Summary: If you live in a laboratory, then this 58/1.4G is slightly sharper than other 50mm lenses, but it can't focus as close as the others. If you need the greatest sharpness, the 55mm f/2.8 AF or 60mm f/2.8 G are even better ideas for much less money.

  • Excerpt: On 17 October 2013 the Nikon company presented a new lens: the Nikkor AF-S 58 mm f/1.4G. At first glance it seems to be just another classic 50 mm device with a quite typical f/1.4 aperture fastness.

  • Summary: „W dziedzinie konstrukcji optycznej poczyniono ogromne postępy, a ciągłe doskonalenie wydajności optycznej i mechanicznej obiektywów NIKKOR gwarantuje znakomitą jakość zdjęć.
