Huge field curvature

Fabian Gonzales, Amazon
22 April 2012
 • Summary: I tested this lens on the Nikon D800. The lens is super sharp, but was designed with a huge amount of field curvature. This means that for landscapes/cityscapes and other far-away subjects, you have to stop down to past f/8.0 to get sharp edges on the D800. This is a lens designed for being used wide open at close range - important to know if you plan to use the lens for another use. I think it's pricey for what you get at current Amazon prices.

Nice but not perfect

Mate Zemljic, B&H Photo

 • Excerpt: I use this lens very often,
and in real life photos, it's flawless.
It is sharp @ f/1,4
But...
Slow and noisy AF with huge barrel distortion is huge disappointment!
I am not pixel counter, I will rather photograph my kid and make nice memories instead of waste my precious time by counting technical flaws of the lens.
 • Pros: Lightweight, Nice Bokeh, Nice OOF rendering
 • Cons: Huge barrel distortion, Slow Focus
