Excerpt: BAD QUALITY CONTROL NIKON, UNPACK THE LENS AND MAKE TESTS AND UNFORTUNATELY THE LENS WAS A SERIOUS PROBLEM FOCUS BACK, BUT WHAT ABOUT NIKON ALSO KNEW THAT HAD THE PROBLEM WITH CAMERAS D600 BUT IS IMPORTANT TO IMPROVE ITS CONTROL SYSTEMS QUALITY I AM VERY SAD AND dISAPPOINTED, RETURN THE LENS A B & H ALL THAT SUCCESSFULLY RESOLVED AS ALWAYS. I HOPE TO HEAR FROM NIKON AS WAS very excited about this lens.
Summary: There are many rave review of this lens out there, and when it does hit its target, the image is beautiful. However, the focus mechanism is somewhat faulty. I'm getting a success rate of about 30-40%. The rest of the images are all out of focus. I tried my copy on 3 D700's and still had the focusing problem. I even locked down my camera on a tripod, thinking that maybe it was user error or shaky hands, but no...the focusing does have problem, images come out of focus.
Excerpt: Yes, this lens could produce stunning results due to its exceptional optical performance. If there were no problems with the autofocus. I tried two copies of this lens (both imported versions at B&H) and could not believe what I saw. I was not able to produce even one sharp image at f1.4 and distances beyond let´s say 100 ft. At infinity the autofocus did not work at all. I am not nitpicking here and talking about some softness. The images were definitely blurred.
Pros: Durable, Nice Bokeh, Rugged, Strong Construction
Excerpt: This lens WON'T AUTOFOCUS BEYOND 30 feet--This DISASTROUS AUTOFOCUS FAILURE happens in all types of lighting and with all types of targets. Whenever I try to autofocus on targets over 30 feet away, my D700 focuses the 24mm f/1.4 at 15(!) feet and gives a solid "focus-locked-on" green light indication. There are many reliable internet reports of similar autofocus-failures with this lens on many different Nikon bodies.
Excerpt: This lens was greatly awaited. When it arrived, I got about 50% focus reliability. The silent wave motor on this and the new 50mm 1.4 lens does not meet professional standards. Very slow, and VERY inaccurate. It seems it runs out of power to drive it to complete focus.
Autofokus-Problem an D90.
