  • Excerpt: After reading many good reviews here and elsewhere on the web, I purchased this lens for use on my D800E. While I was not expecting the performance to be flawless, I was expecting this product to perform much better than it did.

  • Excerpt: i hate this lens on my d800. the distortion is terrible. it's so bad it can't be completely corrected in photoshop. and why should i have to correct it anyway? it's about the same distortion as my old canon 24-105 had at 24 mm. and it shoots out of focus a lot. maybe i got a bad copy?

  • Excerpt: I believe the focus is off on this lens. I need to calibrate it with my camera to verify, but if not corrected, I will be returning.

  • Excerpt: This is the GRAY MARKET version of this lens. I got this lens and didn't realize that Nikon will not repair it or honor warranties. After 2 years (short in lens years) the Autofocus went out. Not cool. And I couldn't get it repaired.

Get the G series!

Jason From Duluth, B&H Photo
3 February 2011
  • Excerpt: Seriously, spend the extra money on the G series. Reasons the G series lens is a better buy: - Can manually override autofocus without switching your camera to manual focus. - The G series lens is completely stationary (the D physically moves in and out and is LOUD and SLOW).

Nikon ought to be ashamed

Cody, Adorama
11 April 2010
  • Excerpt: This is not a low light lens. Simply put it fails at producing sharp results at anything larger than f2.8 Thats bad, really bad because the cheap $100 cannon equivalent (just the f1.8 nevermind the 1.4 USM L) is razor sharp at f2.4 and costs a fraction.
  • Pros: Durable, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Strong Construction
  • Cons: Poor in Low Light
