GREAT LENS BUT IT'S IN DEFICIENT CONDITIONS

Summary: THE NIKON 50MM F1.4 IS A AWESOME LENS BUT, THE ONE I BOUGHT IT HAS SOME PROBLEMS WITH THE IRIS: WHEN YOU OPEN IT AT 1,4 THEN YOU CAN'T CLOSE IT WITH THE RING YOU NEED TO TAKE IT OUT OF THE CAMERA AND AND DO IT MANUAL
Excerpt: Seriously, spend the extra money on the G series. Reasons the G series lens is a better buy: - Can manually override autofocus without switching your camera to manual focus. - The G series lens is completely stationary (the D physically moves in and out and is LOUD and SLOW). Whatever you end up with, purchase a longer lens hood than recommended if you're using a DX camera. The lens flares are ridiculous on my D300 with the standard lens hood.
Excerpt: This is not a low light lens. Simply put it fails at producing sharp results at anything larger than f2.8 Thats bad, really bad because the cheap $100 cannon equivalent (just the f1.8 nevermind the 1.4 USM L) is razor sharp at f2.4 and costs a fraction. Even with a full frame camera, D700, I am disappointed with this lens.
Pros: Durable, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Strong Construction
Excerpt: This lens will not auto focus with the D 60 camera !!!!!!!!!!! You must manually focus!!!!! It takes good pics with the D80 when it does a/f. But with the 60 you can't really focus in low light.
Pros: Easily Interchangeable, Lightweight, Strong Construction
Excerpt: Allthough this is a good lens it will not a/f with the D60!!!! Nobody except nikon says this and it's too late after you order it. I was very disappointed that this happened. It does work well in low light but not helpful if you need to focus as you can't see your subject.
Summary: I bought this after reading mixed reviews and I think I got the one that was made on a friday afternoon just as the factory was closing for the weekend. Soft throughout the aperture range Notchy (in some places) focus ring Lots of purple fringing when wide open I would avoid this and go for the F1.8 version instead.
