Quality much less than I'd hoped for.

Excerpt: Nice looking lens but that's where it stopped. Focus was not consistent in autofocus mode. In manual mode the focus ring would have resistance and binding at both ends of travel. Never could get clear focus in either mode even when mounted on a tripod with flash. Lens was also loose and would rattle when shaken lightly. Tried shaking my other Nikon lenses and they did not have any rattles. This was the second one I tried and both had the same problem.
Excerpt: Unfortunately i received a bad copy of this lens; focusing was inconsistent at various distances (regardless of aperture setting). My results were confirmed by a certified repair facility and even then they did not know exactly what the issue was.
Excerpt: I have returned this product 3 times trying to get a lens that would autofocus with my Nikon D300. I have talked with the Nikon tech folks, tell them my settings(not that complicated- AF-S),and they tell me it is the lens so I send it back. Frustrating, in that the reviews are all excellent and no one seems to report any focusing problems other than it is rather slow. I guess I will have to cough up the extra $140.00+ and try the true autofocus 1.4 lens. Bummer.
Summary: In no way is it the fault of the seller that this lens was so bad and had to be returned to him. If you like shots of views in a thick fog with a tinge of bluey/purple, then this is the lens for you....but not as a present for my husbands birthday!
