Summary: Nikon AF Nikkor 35mm f/2D is a good example of a fast wide angle lens that delivers decent performance characteristics at reasonable price. Resolution is not awe-inspiring (primarily due to the border performance at wider apertures), but good enough for majority of users. Handling of artifacts such as color fringing, flare and distortion is clearly as good in this lens as in any other, more expensive model.
Excerpt: While I hope to create a full Nikon 35mm f/2D AF Lens evaluation, my first priority is to include results from this lens in the lens comparison tools. This page currently exists because it is required by the database and content management systems for the posting of those standard test results.
Conclusion: This lens, like the Canon 1.4/35, can’t be assessed by price. Nikkor 2.0/35 has definitely more advantages than disadvantages and it cooperates well on the D3 and on the D200. At an affordable price, it is especially attractive for the DX sensor reflex cameras owners, being an ideal standard lens. It can teach thinking and framing every beginner photographer and, at the same time, it ensures the picture quality which for many zooms is unattainable.
Cons: low frame corner picture quality at f/2.0 and f/2.8,, high vignetting on both sensors types (DX and FX),, coma- prone.
