Summary: I Bought this lens quite a while ago, but i got to test this piece of glass with my Nikon D800 a week ago in snow, and wide angle beautiful Valleys of Pakistan like Kalam and Matiltan in December. Its a PRO. Its a MASTERPIECE, Ideal for TIME-LAPSES. Precise Detail with ignorable Distortion. You gotta have it. One who doesn't own it, is not a Nature Photographer.
Sharpness of a prime lens with the convenience of a zoom + light weight!

Summary: I bought the Nikkor 20-35mm last year on ebay because I needed an "event" lens as I like to say. I was hired to shoot some special events and a wedding too and all I had for a pro lens was a Nikkor 50mm 1.4....a great, great lens, but really difficult to shoot an entire event with. I shopped ebay for a Nikkor pro f/2.8 zoom. I have a DX Nikon and the first lens I thought of was the 17-55mm, a monster lens with a hefty hefty price...but it's a helluva lens.
Summary: I bought this lens because I found myself sometimes needing to shoot wider than the 35mm prime lens that I had would allow...but not often enough to justify buying a 20 or 24mm prime lens to be used only occasionally. I chose this lens over the Nikon's newer 17-35mm SW because it is just as fast, just as sharp, a great deal lighter, less than half the price (even used), and uses real glass in the aspherical elements instead of the cheaper-to-produce molded and glued...
Summary: A wide angle lens with great center sharpness but not as good as my 14mm but at a third the cost what could you expect? and what's more it can take a front filter when conditions are too dirty to pull out my 14mm which has no protection at all. From my experience the image quality of this lens suffers most with window glare so much detail in stained glass windows or leadlight windows is completely drowned out with background glare so I much prefer my 14mm for interiors...
Pros: Takes a front filter, very compact, resonably sharp, low distortion.
Summary: The quality of this generation of Nikkor is in my opinion unsurpassed. It build quality and optics is perfect, leaving only some very minor handling issues with regards to switching between auto and manual focus. This particular item came in mint condition and feels almost brand new. I love it!
